Their are polls all the time about the Monarchy. That's why I asked if you were Welsh or Scottish because the polls are more republican leaning than in England, still a majority of monarchists though.

Canada and Australia have had referendums. No point in the UK having one because it's about 80-20 in England.

We don't keep them just for the sake of it. We keep them for the reasons I mentioned earlier and more. The Queen serves us not the other way round.

you can take a poll and make it say almost anything though, you just have to ask the right people.

the Queen does not serve us, she serves herself, to a load of cash.

none of your reasons come close to justifying having an unelected head of state who we pay £40m a year.

Uh... it may be a little off topic, but could you explain how the American system is a dictatorship?

@tombi123

when did we have this referendum on the monarchy that proved most people want one?

when did we they have refferendums in every other nation that said they like her?

well?

as for the popularity thing, yeah i dont know why i said that tbh, i tend to post sometimes without thinking.

keeping the monarchy for the sake of it just seems stupid to me, we do that, we aint a democracy.

If there was a public vote on whether to keep the royal family or not I can garentee you that the british public would vote for them to stay.

You don't need a refferendum to prove The Queen is liked all over the world. Just watch the reception she gets when she visits other countries.

We don't just keep the monarchy for the sake of it. As I have said before, she is really good for relations with other countries, and she brings in more money than she costs the taxpayer.

She has no political power so it doesn't really make us any less democratic. Would you prefer the American version of democracy which is a dictatorship in disguise.

there has been no vote though, thats the point.

so because people in a crowd like her, that means shes universally popular in that nation? crowds turned out to cheer the BNP in some areas, does that mean theyre the most popular party? youre using perception as fact, you have no concrete proof.

so good for relations with other countrys infact that were mocked by most of them for having her (i dont know this, but ive seen US tv shows that take the piss out of us having her, so im gonna do what you did, claim a perception is fact)

she does have political power though as is established in this thread, power that should be given to parliment. how is it dictatorship if an elected government does what its elected to do?

as i said earlier in the thread, i like the idea of giving her powers to parliment and im in favour of PR, so it wont be like america at all.

When and how does the Queen spend all of this loot? She works 365 days a yr (including Christmas Day). Is she buying the latest sports cars? Holidays abroad? Nights on the town? Valuable treasures? Duck islands?

Germany got rid of the Kaiser and ended up with Adolf 'elected' Hitler, do you want to take that risk?

Evidence (if ALL polls aren't enough):
1. Australia and Canada have had referendums.

2. How many nations are in the Commonwealth of their own accord?

3. Alex Salmond of the SNP has said that if Scotland becomes independent they still want the Queen as head of state.

Off-topic. Overall the USA has a better system than we do mainly because it's founded on the rights of Englishmen. All America needs to do is restore the Monarchy and they'll be perfect.

she does technically spend it on holidays, pets, second home (more than 2 infact) any bills she has, and so on and so forth, shes like all the MP's put together in that respect.

lets replace them with Cat's then, that way, we both lose and the Cats win, but atleast they will cost less and be cuter!

Then you and your cat army will either be swinging from London Bridge or exiled to france (not sure which punishment is worse).

how are the cats worse than the queen? theyre quiter, theyre cheaper, theyre no more or less democratic, surely you should accept them, afterall any argument against them is an argument against the monarchy

and intresting to know that your xenophobic against the french.
