Xbox Live gets Canal+ in France

Microsoft has signed another partner for Xbox Live in Europe, with French pay-TV station Canal + joining the service.

Users will gain access to films and football, in a similar deal to the Sky service being offered to Xbox 360 users in the UK.

According to a Reuters report, over 3000 films will be on offer at launch, along with live and on-demand football, drama and soap opera programming.

The deal is expected to incorporate more programming in the future and services will roll-out across other Microsoft devices.

 

Looks like Microsoft having a cunning plan... Local content for Local folk.

This is actually huge. Canal + is really popular in France and neighbouring countries.

They always get exclusive soccer games and motorsports broadcasts. Knowing how big soccer and racing games are in Europe this should have quite an impact.


Microsoft wasn't kidding when they said they were shifting budgets from Japan to Europe.

I do not think it will be the full SKY service offering but something close. I am wondering if they will extend to the other Canal+ offerings in Europe such as Belgium, Italy and Spain.

Do they still do Soft porn? I thought was just to fill the gaps in programing because of requirements to not show Movie blockbusters. Certainly the sports stuff came about because of restrictions placed on them.

Damn, UK gets Sky, France gets Canal+... when does the US get a TV service?

As with the Sky service announced previously this is Pay TV so no not free.
