Micro$oft is underestmating sony. Just like sega did before them.

How can you compare M$ and Sega?

Sega was a software development company, that did arcade hardware - and dabbled in home consoles.

Sony is a huge multi-national corporation, that makes basically any form of electronic equipment available.

MS is the one of the richest and profitable companies on the planet.

...

I think its the other way around - Sony is underestimating MS. Apart from profit (which is secondary?) MS are getting pretty much what they want at the moment.

This doesnt qualify a no PS2 compatibility

Confirmed: 40 gig PS3 has no backward compatibility

"Please Note! 40GB PS3 is not backward compatible with PS2 games.
This information is based on specifications supplied by manufacturers and should be used for guidance only "

But here Play even says 'guidance only' ........ Now, im just saying could play possibly assume that the removal of the EE chip or the wording therof means no BC?

I mean, we have seen actual professional websites list games like BioShock and Alan wake for the PS3 and put up preorders.....so is it really outlandish that Play misunderstood the specs?

However, IF they announce a ps2 price cut to $99 it would be believable:

"Want PS2 games and PS3 games on one system? Get the 80 gb for $500....want just PS3 games get the $400 but beware you may want PS2 games and that will cost you $100 down the line so why dont you just grab that $500 with more GB and mem slots/USB"

It would be stupid, imo, but Sony has dont stupider things.

I don't believe it. If the new PS3 really has no backward compatibility, it's all over.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick
