Meh. I think that after I made the top 10 Suiko chars you asked me, you still owe me a big one...and you'll spoil it?

I wonder where that thread went, I should go dig it, that was a fantastic thread

I want to see that thread.  Must be from before I started showing up here.

@Zex

That is a great list. I wouldn't have thought to put Gizel up there, but he really is responsible for a lot of the tone of Suikoden V. I actually went into the thread thinking there's no way anyone could agree on the greatest ten characters from the Suikoden games, picking from the several hundred characters that entails, but I think you did a really good job. I like how you picked characters who are great on their own but also represent major themes or conflicts in the story of the game(s) they belong to. I was getting a little choked up while I read through it, just thinking about all the shit they've been through/ put me through.

You've also pretty much convinced me to play Suikoden IV, which I'm ashamed to admit as a Suikoden fan I've never gotten through.

Suikoden IV is a tough one.  I have struggled playing that one.  I think I've only played through it twice, which for a suikoden game is pretty low for me.  I have found a way to make the game actually really good... and it's cheating.  I know, sounds lame, but when you are in a boat that moves about an inch in one hour because the random battles are turned on to overdrive then you can understand.  Just get an action replay or codebreaker or something and turn off the random battles when you are in the boat.  Makes the game a million times more enjoyable.

IV is a good game, but it is also bottom of the list, for me anyway.  I would rank the suikoden games II, V, I, Tierkreis, III, IV.

that list actually sucks ass. no cornelio? forget it.

Thanks. I tried to pick significative characters, I mean, for example I love Watari and Edge from Suiko 3, but they're a bit meaningless in the big picture, they're just (interesting) supporting characters.

Yeah, I think all the ones I picked (and many more I missed) show that they confronted serious situations, and they always came out convincingly. Not "out of character" reactions or anything like that, they are true to their being

And Suikoden IV, it's not as bad as everyone says. I still think is a more-than-decent game. While still not reaching the "good" status, it's enjoyable enough to warrant two playthroughs (like any good Suikoden should). Just know that you'll play a game with many flaws and you won't find a masterpiece, and you'll be good.

I'm sure you'll find something to love in it
