The playstation is too established of a brand to simply call it quits. Just consider this generation the "gamecube"- it'll be a humbling experience for sony.

I really do think the ps3 will surge in sales once it hits sweet spot of 299 esp if coupled with holidays and GT5....
def NOT the gamecube of this gen but more of a very late bloomer...we'll have to wait til the gen ends before making any conclusions thought
Predictions
GT5 will sell 3.2million + first week on ps3 (made 06 March 2010)
FFXIII Versus will have higher Metacritic scores than FFXIII after the first month.... Bet going on with perpride - loser changes sig for a month
KH3 will be PS3 EXCLUSIVE - willing to bet removal from vgchartz for a month

They will know Helgan belongs to Helghasts
If you want one then buy with confidence it will be around for the rest of the generation.
Dont Ubisoft and EA make the most revenue on the PS3?
PC games havent pushed gfx as far this gen as last gen so there is no need for new more powerful hardware.

PS3 isn't going anywhere its competing with console that are half it's price and not getting beat by much. Most people still forget 360 had a years head start.

I wouldn't buy any console now, the next generation is closer than most people expect.

sigh....it's sad to know that this may actually be the case.
I dont think that the console will be canned, but there is a chance that third party support will wane in later years.
Its called the N64, Dreamcast, Gamecube effect.
It sucks but its down to commercial viability of a product.
One problem that the PS3 has introduced is a large number of non gaming owners. They have bought the console as a Blu Ray player and not as a Games machine. They have never bought a game and probably never will. A total waste if you ask me.
However it means third party devs are scratching their heads at why blockbuster titles simply dont ship in the same ratio as games for the PS3's chief competitor.
I would say if you want to get one go ahead. Sony will always support the console and they will not let the machine become totally unsupported.
Bill Gates? Is that you?
If you think the PS3 will go the way of the Dreamcast you might want to get your numbers correct first:
The PS3 has already in 2 years sold more then the Saturn and Dreamcast combined.
The PS3 has sold more then the Gamecube did in 5 years.
The PS3 has sold millions more then the 360 had at the same point in it's lifecycle.
The PS3 is still $200 more then the entry priced 360 with plenty of room for pricecuts.
So why would you assume the PS3 is going the way of the Dreamcast? Because you're trolling? Oh but you said you weren't trolling so you can't be.
