It's growing here. I never played or watched as a kid, and now I follow Chelsea and Barca pretty closely. It's still behind American football, hockey, baseball and tennis for me, though.

@ highwaystar101: I hope so. It be nice to see team usa do well next year. I think this year they caught a lot of people by surprise. Especially after loosing the first two games.

It would be awesome to have soccer as big in the US as it's everywhere else in the world. When the national team is playing, it's half excitment over the game, and the other half is nationalism. Once that nationalism is there, it'll get your heart racing. Honestly, when the Olympic games where up the whole of the US was cheering the national team on live in front of the television. That should happen in soccer aswell and really, soccer is in my opinion a much more enjoyable sport then, for instance, swimming

Well US is in a better position than Canada right now as a north american team. you guys have greta facilities down there and Canada just has hockey..

Even though young kids get into it, they only play till there like 18 as a summer sport and forget about ti when the ygrow up. Thats the case in Canada. Most soccer players play hockey in the winter and they pursure hockey instead as they cant advance to teh next level as they have in england with acadamies and youth teams etc. Although in my shcool there are some pretty good guys who got contracts to england and argentina. you never know.

@ esmoriet: I agree, I think part of the problem is many Americans don't give soccer a chance. Although I think if they can pull off stunners like they did today the sport will continue to grow. But, As far as the olympics go there's nothing more exhilarating than ping pong, lol.

@ captainpreferences: I know what you mean. Personally I've just noticed the number of people watching the games and playing and sticking with it have been growing since I was a kid. Most of our best athletes go into basketball, baseball, or American football though. Maybe that will change in the future but right now that's where America's best athletes are.

Because the confederation cup thread was so popular right? It has 30 replaies for the whole tournament. There was barely any noise when by some miracle USA qualified. It is bullshit to put the results of a match in the god damned thread title. There is no excuse for this shit. Its a duplicate thread and spoilers in the damn thing. At least one rule broken in the thread creation, and probably should be two. No, this should not be expected.

EITEHR WAY some thread is going to come up talking about the came especially with the number os spanish people and Latinos on this site supporting Spain. You should have though if there was an upset, and usa won everywhere would be reporting this even fucking nbc news or w/e american stations there are. if you didnt want to know the score line you should have stayed off the internet.
