I love how people are not rejoicing for their fellow gamers, but rather are acting all jealous that their console doesn't get this kind of an upgrade. Grow up.

The price is going to be a like a kidney. MS sells a 60gig unit for like 100 dollars. I would really hope that they wouldn't charge $1000 for something over 500g

could u give me a link to confirm this please.

Well, you're just exceptionally lazy, then. The swappable standard hdd in PS3 is a damn sight better than the proprietary, small, and overpriced 360 solution. "They're giving PS3's away for free? Yeah, but you have to actually go pick them up. Ugh." - Squilliam, only about PS3s. |
Yes, but the 360's hard drive is swapable between consoles. The PS3's cannot.

Yeah, well lets check the prices of the bigger 360 hard drives when they come out, and you can do the math. 320gb 2.5" drives are like $60 right now: http://www.pricewatch.com/browse/hard_removable_drives/notebook_320gb And changing drives wouldn't take hours of time commitment. |
Step 1: Acquire a backup medium (external hard drive)
Step 2: Format it in appropriate format for PS3 files (if not already)
Step 3: Copy data over (could take half an hour depending on size)
Step 5: Open up PS3 and take out HDD compartment
Step 6: Swap out HDD with new 2.5" drive (make sure to not strip the screws as I heard they are very fragile!
Step 7: Put HDD compartment back in
Step 8: Format new HDD for PS3 files
Step 9: Copy your files back over to the PS3
I bet that takes at least an hour of your time at minimum.
And if you want to be technical, you can upgrade to a 120GB HDD on the 360 for the price of a 120GB 2.5" drive if you aren't "lazy" and just look up how to do it.
OT: I totally predicted they would do this back in the week of E3. I even predicted we would see these released around August time for the Games on Demand service! =)
lul at people who will buy this, just get the 20 and up it yourself (120gb is easy enough, they'll be able to get the file to get the larger HDDs to works with ease).
Dunno if this has already been posted, but here's a link to Pachter (has he EVER been right?) talking about 1 TB HDD for the 360 next year...
http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/20041/Rumor-Microsoft-to-Release-1TB-Hard-Drive-for-Xbox-360/
"I don't see the timing between new release and digital download being a function of anything other than hard drive sizes," offered Pachter, speaking exclusively to GamesIndustry.biz. "I think as soon as we have large hard drives - think the rumoured Project Natal 'new' Xbox 360 with a terabyte of storage in 2010 - we'll have day-and-date downloads."
I noticed the mem card is now down to $29.99 .. may be $59.99 for 60GB and may be around $100 for 120gb (or may be discontinue altogether, Best Buy put them on sale last week for $129. I think 500gb is unlikely but 320 gb sound more like it. $149.99 any more than that would not make any sense.
500GB 2.5inch drives are too expensive for them to include at the moment. I don't believe this for a second. To make the markup they currently do. This drive itself would have to cost £199...
Microsoft aren't that stupid.
But a 160\250\320GB drive release is very possible.
