Forums - Microsoft - Quicker Reviews that I'd Like: Geon Emotions/Halo 3

A quite rare thing happened today, I played on an Xbox 360! And since I clearly like pretending people care about my opinions, time for some reviews!

Geon Emotions (800 MS Points): You play as Pac man's cousins, cubes that eat little dots by rolling on top of them, with the goal of clearing your side before your opponent clears his. Played only offline multiplayer, only duel mode. Chose an emotion, and for that emotion, the powerup will be more strong (I.E. Choose melancholy, and your pits will be even harder for your opponent to get out of! Or Choose rapture, and you'll definately be amongst Gods chosen, I mean, you'll move faste???) but only for the powerup that matches your emotion. Though you can use others, and getting to use them well is quite important.

Another important thing is a good pattern following mind and good estimation skills. The (duel) game ends after you've filled and emptied your cube 5 times, and some platforms are way out in the middle of nowhere, and if you're full with 1 dot left to consume, well, TS, you gotta come back and get it later.

The Good: Not entirely difficult to pick up, plays Online, has a nice quick competitive edge to it once you're experienced. Umm, fairly fun. Many many levels, that show you what powerups are on it, and show if it has moving platforms, although they all play the same, just some with different maps.

The Bad: Fear is useless. Wow, they can't see you. Unless they just look at your screen. Which is also the only way to dodge an attack, unless you get armour. For some reason, a game with only 4 directions, the D Pad doesn't work. You press left, it goes up. Now, it may be my fault for selecting the 4 way directional pad on a game where you can only move in 4 directions. Use the joystick. You need it. One stomp/poison can kill you. When you get hit, you lose a few dots (That happen to go right back where you picked them up!). Some levels, attacks are scarce, so it's timing and patterns that win. Other levels, it really depends on if you can get armour or be lucky and have them miss, because how the game is visualized, you aren't going to notice their attack unless you really concentrate on watching them, so if they get one of the 2 (amazing number) of attack powerups, they'll probably hit you since the stomp has ludicrous range. Mild frustration.

Overall: 7/10. Total Time Played: 45 minutes

Halo 3: Got dropped in to an already existing co-op campaign on heroic. And, umm, well, the controls have changed just a bit, the AI is in fact smarter, and there are a couple of new items.  After re-orienting myself with the game though, I kinda found it pathetically easy on Heroic, easily weaving around 2 hunters as they tried to charge me while my friend calmly and slowly found ammunition and took them out.

Simply put though, it's Halo. Nothing has changed, well, they added some new vehicles, new guns, and a couple items to pick up. Same old great gameplay, same old smooth game. Nice little bonus, the voices appear to be charecter specific (My friend as the arbitor chasing around one of the little worthless guys heard him scream "Please spare my life arbitor"), which is a nice touch. They know who's about to cave their skulls in with the blunt end of whatever is in their hands.

Only complaint?

Well, we were hoping for some 3 player co-op. Nope. Game will only allow 2 players per console for a single player campaign. Well, that kinda sucks. We had 3 people. We wanted to play campaign with 3 people. The game just smiled and called us bitches. Oh, and it doesn't take long for you to notice AI retardation on your side.
Overall: 9/10. Total Time Played: 90 minutes. I do want to play it again though.

Around the Network

Halo 3 is a fantastic game. The first two were pretty decent, though I didn't love them. But yeah, Halo 3 earned its blockbuster status, well deserved.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

err for the 3 man camp, i really wouldnt want that, split screen is already tuff, unless you have a big screen, and i dont want to think about 3 split screen

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

I was playing on a projection TV that had a viewing area of about 6 feet by 6 feet. We could have handled about 8 person split screen and still had plenty of room. Essentially, each of us was playing on our own 52 inch screen.
