Forums - Sony - Some questions about upgrading my 60gb PS3

The space you want completely depends on what you're planning on using it for. No need to buy a drive much larger than what you'll be using since larger ones will always be available for less in the future.

If you store a complete collection of video, you can run out of space pretty fast depending on the size of your library. It wasn't hard for me to fill 200GB of video even before adding demos and other PSN content.

But if you have an external drive large enough to hold a full back up of your current 60GB drive, that's the only way to get a mirror image of your content when you restore it to the new drive.

Takes a while too. I'm swapping a 320GB drive with a 500GB drive next week and a 175GB back up file takes well over 4 hours to complete (and probably another 4 hours to restore to the new drive). So delete whatever you don't want to back up before you do that to save some time.

It runs just fine...

Like above ; Make sure its 5400 RPM, 2.5 inch sata so you dont go and try to put in some damn computer HD XD, Its worth it :>.

I lost all my saves, But hey!

Sat there, took my 15 games and googled their names + Save on PS3. DL em on a USB and eventually just pasted em in XD.

After all its the online stuff that is epic important to me and you dont lose that so... GO FOR IT! *Rocky punches* GO FOR IT!! *Rocky punches* GO FOR IT !!!! *Rocky uppercut and wins*

I did same thing recently. Use the backup utility and everything will be backed up on your HDD. Annoyingly, due to the new HDD once you've installed and formatted it, when you restore from the external HDD your PS3 will restore users, saves, wallpaper, themes, etc. but will not restore any PSN games, etc. as they will be 'locked' to the old HDD ID.

You will therefore need to re-install the games from PSN. I understand why the do this from a piracy point of view, but it is a bit of a pain.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Using others peoples saves disables trophies.  If you bothered to spend the time downloading saves from the net and transfering to PS3 via USB, why didn't you just ave your own files onto USB first?

Because

1) I was a retard and thought I could easily transfer everything after I put in the HD by USB or someshit but that didnt work.

2) My games are.. ugh not Old but all of the games (Aside from Killzone 2 where you cant copy or something and Legends of Wrestlemania where it disables trophies worked by taking a save file). So basically 13 out of my 15 games worked where the 2 that didnt was like.. KZ2 >.>? Why would I want a save of that even Ill just replay it :p.

3) Spend the time? It took me (I timed myself XD 15 minutes to get the saves and another 10 to put them in) Wasnt too killing.

Mainly
