Forums - Sony - Some questions about upgrading my 60gb PS3

I have a 60gb PS3 and will be upgrading the hard drive to 250gb.  I wanted to do it a long time ago but was worried about getting the YLOD.

What about my PS2 games?  Can they be back up too and will putting in a new hard drive stop my PS3 from playing PS2 games?

What about my themes too?  I have about 30 of them and I don't want to lose them either.  I would hate to have to go back on PS3 theme sites to find the ones I had.

Btw I have a Western Digital 250GB hard drive.  That should be a good one right.

So to the people that upgraded they 60gb PS3's did you have any problems?  I would like to know before I upgrade my PS3 this week.

You will lose all data (saves, themes, music, video, etc.) unless you back it up via external HDD etc. Your PS2 library will not be affected. Make sure you have a 5400 rpm HDD and you should be all set. With an upgraded HDD the download speed and installation is slightly increased :)

I have an external HDD.  I just want to make sure my themes are going to it.  When I go to my themes I try to copy them but nothing show up to say copy like the other stuff.  I already put my photos and music on my computer.  As long as the themes can be copied like you said to the external HDD then I should be good to go with upgrading tonight.

Go to System Settings>Backup Utility>Back Up. Everything will be retained.

Do this.

Manually backing up is for people who do not have large enough external hardrives to hold everything.

Ok will do and I have a 40gb external HDD so that is enough space.

You will have no problems regarding the YLOD, I upgraded my HDD about 18 months ago and have had no problems. For backing up just do what the others have suggested.

PSN: Gippon

go for one with 5400RPM

60gb are easier to overheart due the ps2 chip on it, just be careful when you upgrade the case it easy to ruin.

read a guide or something they will tell you the exact one.

just remember u need to switch to 1.5gb data speed if urs is 3.0 gb...or else ur PS3 won't know there's a HDD installed

I was gonna get a 120gb but I thought about movies and shows that I wanted to put on my PS3 so I got the 250gb.  I don't think I need that much space but it would be good to have extra space if I ever need it.
