Arcade

  • Donkey Kong (1981) - The first game to feature Mario, although at this point he is named Jumpman.
  • Donkey Kong Jr. (1982) - Mario is the opponent in this one, and it is up to Donkey Kong Jr. to rescue his father.
  • Mario Bros. (1983) - Introduced Luigi, it featured 2-player simultaneous play.
  • Vs. Super Mario Bros. (1985) - A mixture of the original SMB and The Lost Levels that ran on the arcade VS Unisystem. Powerups and solution to mazes (e.g. 4-4) have been moved, and more enemies have been added thanks to new flicker-reduction programming, along with other bugfixes.

Game Boy Color

Game Boy Advance

Nintendo DS

Nintendo home systems

 Famicom/NES

  • Super Mario Bros. (1985) - 32 KB of program; 8 KB of graphics. According to the Guinness Book of World Records [1], SMB is the best-selling game of all time.
  • Tennis (1985) - Mario was the referee.
  • Wrecking Crew (1985) - Mario is the protagonist, but gameplay is unrelated to other Mario games. Many NES games featured Mario as a character, even though the game may not have fit the theme of the series.
  • Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (1985) - Released initially in Japan on the Famicom Disk System as Super Mario Bros. 2, this used a slightly modified version of the original SMB engine with much harder levels. The Lost Levels title was created when this game was brought released outside of Japan in Super Mario All-Stars, without the 2. Nintendo did not believe that it would sell well in the US, as the game was voted "too hard" by 94% of a survey of 250 Americans[citation needed], and the game wasn't seen in America until the SNES release.
  • All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros. (1985) - Japan only. A version of the original Super Mario Bros. game with graphics changed to feature radio personalities from a popular Japanese radio station.
  • Golf (1985) - Mario's first foray into golf. He must have made some spare money in his blue collar jobs.
  • Mario Bros. (1986) - Originally an arcade game released by Nintendo in 1983. In the subsequent years it was released on various home systems, including the NES in 1986.
  • Pinball (1987) - Mario appears in the Bonus stage, where he maneuvers a platform to keep the ball from getting away, and then catch the Princess when she falls from above.
  • Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! (1987) - Mario is the referee.
  • Super Mario Bros. 2 / Super Mario Bros. USA (1988) - Released at first in markets outside of Japan, this is a modified version of a Japanese game called Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic with some of the graphics replaced by Mario-themed graphics. This game tends to be overlooked by some Mario fans as being the runt; some of the characters introduced in this game have now become staples of the Mario world, including Bob-ombs, Snifits, Pokey the Cactus, and Shy Guys.
  • Tetris (1989) - Mario appeared in some cut-scenes in the Famicom/NES and Game Boy versions.
  • Super Mario Bros. 3 (1990) - Mario gains several new abilities, including the first appearance of his ability to fly. Also of note is that this is the best selling video game that was not bundled with a console. [2]
  • Dr. Mario (1990) - Puzzle game with mechanics similar to Tetris and Columns.
  • NES Open Tournament Golf (1991)
  • Mario is Missing! (1993) - Luigi must restore artifacts to landmarks of famous cities around the world and defeat Bowser to save Mario. North America only
  • Mario's Time Machine (1993) - Mario must restore historical artifacts to their proper time and place (and in the NES version, save Yoshi). North America only

Seriously, it's ridiculous.

Halo 4: Arbiter's Mansion.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

There's a difference between actually bashing MS, and just making a joke.

Halo 4 Finish the fight... Oh wait, it was already finished? Well, start another one and finish that one. lol... Maybe it is Halo Wars or the movie game. I thought Halo was only supposed to be a trilogy... Am I wrong?

Wow, I'm shocked.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that we'll also see more sequels to: Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Mario, Zelda, Grand Theft Auto, Mega Man, Castlevania, Madden, Tiger Woods, Tony Hawk, Unreal Tournament, Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, every single World War II shooter, Kirby, Pokemon, Sonic the Hedgehog, Crazy Taxi, Spy Hunter, any game with a popular movie or TV liscence, Kingdom Hearts, StarFox, F-Zero, Devil May Cry, Gran Turismo, Project Gotham Racing, The Sims, Need For Speed, Mortal Kombat, Doom, Metroid, "Tales of...", Burnout, Timesplitters, Banjo Kazooie, Perfect Dark, Viva Pinata, Gears of War, Oblivion, Warcraft, SSX, Ninja Gaiden (oh, they already announced a sequel for that one, I'm a genius), Rayman/Rabbids, Red Steel, Pac Man, Secret of Mana, and Fire Emblem.

But never Chrono Trigger. ;)

WOW if you beat the game you will see that Master Chief and Cortana is still alive, but no trace of life anywhere. They finished the fight already. Duh? Beat the game with Reborn Enemy and you will see what I'm talking about.
