Forums - Sony - Are Sony's non gaming projects for PS3 really worth it for the extra sales?

Firstly, Home is generating Sony a lot of revenue, ads, clothing, spaces, etc, etc. Folding at home costed Sony about 5 bucks, all you do is donate. Vidzone is great and will push casual music lovers in Europe to purchase a PS3. If I was Sony I would stop fooling around and sign contracts with Twitter, Facebook, AIM, Blockbuster.

maybe blockbuster but for other services i don't think PS3 is a preferred choice.. u can use a nettop or even palm will be more easy for these services.. that is wot i m saying. PS3 can never become ideal for these services. :)

well i think they make the ps3 much better

"They will know heghan belongs to the helghast"

"England expects that everyman will do his duty"

"we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender"

They should just do a deal with blockbuster to put a brand name on their video streaming service. A lot of times people mention that the 360 "has netflix" they don't realise that PS3 has video downloading too. If they worked with blockbuster PS3 owners could brag about it. Right now it's too generic.

- Home

That's made a lot of money back. A LOT.

- VidZone

How expensive could that have been, really?

- Folding for PS3

They didn't do anything. It's Stanford's program.

- Now working on Cloud

Fake.

- than on smaller scale browsers and media players & codecs.

Improves the experience, and again, not expensive- a browser was already in place with the PSP.

" Profit Not Driving Force For Home" - Sony
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/profit-not-driving-force-for-home-right-now

PlayStation Home's focus is firmly on producing content and growing its community, with chasing profit coming further down the list.

Doesn't sound like Sony is making any profit from Home.

If given a choice between GoW3 / Valkyria Chronicles and home, I would pick the games. The reason most people buy a system is for the games that the system has imho.

@ gebx: That could also be interpreted as "yeah, as if sony is going to say - we're in this to shake money from our customers-". All in all, there was a lot of fuss about how Sony said that they made more with Home's launch than the first week (month?) of their video service. Should provide some earning-ideas imho?

Record numbers for their video service on Home's first week (or month) makes sense. The Home theater was a new gimmicky thing to try out. I'm betting the same thing will happen when the 360's theater opens, we'll see a boost, but how long did it last?

Sony also just announced 6.5 million copies of Home have been downloaded. When MS releases similar results, they tend to give out $$'s of crap purchased, etc... Sony being quiet is usually not a good thing.

Sony has patented PSN cloud so i do think its pretty confirmed that they r developing something with the name of Cloud. What it is, maybe that is not confirmed. and i think Cloud is going to need same amount of time and resources as HOME.. so thats a lot..

Why cant the PS3 be ideal, but the 360 is?  Since it is getting some of those features
