Forums - Microsoft - New Lost Odyssey info from the latest Famitsu

I have never played a turn based game before, never got in to the whole final fantasy thing, and I am not really sure why. Mainly just the gameplay seemed kinda boring to me. What do you guys think? Am I totally missing out, or no? FF13 and this game have me really intrigued, I am also going to pick up final fantasy, but I did play KOTOR, which is not turn based and seems a little more action oriented for the non-rpgers out there. Should I take the leap?

Currently Playing:

PS4 - Killzone:SF and Assasins Creed 4

XBox One: BF4, CoD:Ghosts, Dead Rising 3, Forza 5

Changing channels with my voice: priceless!!!

if anyone is wondering why it was on multiple disks, well there you go. hours and hours of FMV.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

20 hours of FMV? wow that seems like a lot. how many hours were in other games like FF. and the trigger-timing is reminiscent of FFVIII and Legend of Dragoon.

The 20 hours of FMV seems way over the top. Although the low rate of encounters could make the game more accessable to non-RPG gamers.

Debating with fanboys, its not
all that dissimilar to banging ones
head against a wall

20 hours of FMV? Wow.

It really depends on the individual game. "Turn-based" only tells you so much about the mechanics. For example, you can have really generic turn-based battle systems with little inspiration or some that put a nice spin on the concept and deliver a unique and entertaining experience.

Final Fantasy has, up until recently, featured the same generic TB system with a couple of quirks here and there between the games. I can't really speak for XIII because the exact mechanics are a mystery and all the closed theater presentations aren't helping to shed much light on the game other than vague descriptions of new characters from the few that have seen the trailers. Lost Odyssey, from the videos I saw at TGS, seems completely unremarkable in the combat department, and from this thread this looks to be yet another game focusing more on story and mechanics in overwhelming favor over engrossing gameplay of any kind. Of course, the game isn't out yet so that could change. I don't really know how anyone could try to spin 20 hours of FMV in a 40 hour game.

you cant really make those statements, you have not played the game.

The combat looks really good, so what if its not something completely new, it looks fantastic and i cant wait

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

Actually, I can make those statements, because I just did. :)

It's got nothing to do with being compeltely new so much as not being completely redundant.

Wow, but this doesnt sound right.
"....20 hours of which are taken up by event scenes or FMV."

Thats gotta be an error.

Currently playing..........

Gears of War 2, GTA IV Lost and Damned, Little Big Planet (Yes I said I had no interest but my girl wanted to try it and we did and now Im hooked )

alot of people still prefer old school combat, me im in between, i like the fact that some are going new, others going old school
