I dont care if they lower the price or not. Ive already have a PS3, so why should i care. Why cant we argue about the price of games instead? I think Sony should lower the price on games! That would make a huge boost!

You should care because you own the console, so you want it to sell well, garner 3rd party support, and generally be considered a success, I would assume.

I dont care if its considered a success or not. Why would I? As long as they provide me with games i want to play, i dont give a *humpf* about how successful it is or not. You dont buy a car just because it sells good, you buy the one that suits your needs. You dont buy a computer because alot of people already have it, you buy the one that suits your needs. You dont buy a Wii because everyone else got on, you buy the console that suits your needs.

But as for sales, id rather have them lower the price on games to up the installbase rather than a hw price drop which dosent concern me. Imagine if you could buy 2 games for the price of one compared to other consoles, id go for that one, providing it had the games i wanted.

Its not like i can help sony sell the desired amout of consoles sold. No matter how much "i care" about the overall success, its not going to help sony run their business. So id rather focus on what i care about, and that is games and hw features. Add more for value and bring more great games and im happy. No need for a price cut imo.

I think the frustration has been showing for a while. I seem to remember a few 3rd parties mention PS3 price cuts, but never any threats like this. I think they should let Sony handle their own business though and not push for a price cut. Sony will when they are able to afford it or be best helped by one.

Im with you on that one.

Because i dont see Activision picking up the tab of Sonys losses if they were to drop the price atm. Imagine if Sony went like;

- "Hell.. fuck it. We'll do what all these 3rdies wants."
- "Ooops, we ended up in the red and are screwed. Now we have to kill of whatever thousands of employees we have and sell our company. But wait... our good friends Activision will help us out!"
- "Hello Activision, could you give us a hand?"
- "Activision?"
- "Aaactivisiiiooon?"
- "Hello?"
- "Is there anybody out there?"

The Activison thing is an empty threat. CoD4 sold over 4 million and WaW is at about 3.3 million now. Do you really think they'll pass on putting the next Call of Duty games on the PS3 when they sell this well? Even guitar hero sells a shitload and it's the same game every year with new songs.

Yeah PS3 sales suck ass and it should be market leader, but come on it launched at $499/$599. Name 1 other console that launched at this high of a price and was able to sell 20 million units, hell even 10 million units!!

This isnt the year of the PS3. This is the year of Uncharted 2.

I have heard "Year of the PS3" too much. I am not sure when it is coming anymore.

2009 according to Sony is the year of the PSP. Anything else about 2009 being the "Year of the PS3" is bull. 2010 is when Sony are saying the "Year of the PS3" will be. So until then, anyone that says "Year of the PS3" is full of it.

So gametrailers was full of it when they said 2008 was the year of ps3? even if its just an opinion?....poor gametrailers cant even express their opinion.

The Activision thing was an empty threat. I mean, Activision needs PS3 support in order to support the 360 (the multiplat profitability rule), so it's either keep supporting PS3, or go Wii only, or just take losses.

I'm trying to pick out which part of this post makes sense. Multiplat rule of what now? Wii only makes more money then 360 and Wii, or PS3 and Wii?...

So far, I'm having no luck here deciphering this.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

I have seen a decent percentage of the time, a "Year of the _____" (with the _____ being the system in discussion) resulting in a dump of every title that MIGHT come out for the said system, as an exclusive, being listed by fanboys.  If they want to list a muti-system title, it will have some inane reason why the version for the console in question would be superior.  I had learned of far too many 2010 and beyond PS3 release titles by fanboys of that system, during the "Year of the PS3" chat.

Let's be real, before this generation started, PS3 was the pressumed market leader. Which is understandable, PS2 was a great success, so why wouldn't PS3 be expected to follow in those footsteps? Massive amounts of money and resources were invested into the PS3 before the system even launched. Once out the gate, PS3 did not catch fire right away, and most expected the slow start would eventually boom with the release of much anticipated titles. This did not happen.

Phrases such as "Sony on a ten year plan" "Quality vs quantity" (reminiscent of the N64 days and Howard Lincoln) "Year of the PS3" kept being shouted by the likes of Kaz and company and echoed in the forums by devote fans.

Anyone who fails to understand the nature of the videogame business won't grasp the concept that no company remains on top forever.  For a large number of reasons, the top dog eventually does get knocked off and supplanted.  Sony is showing increasing signs of a leader who is no longer on top.  It is the nature of the business.  It is wise for people to, at best, remember companies fondly, but don't get religious about it.  And yes, I do have the Atari logo as my avatar.  It should serve as a reminder for people out there as to the nature of the business.

We still haven't hit the phase when we have a bunch of people saying that Sony would be better off as a third party publisher rather than as a console manufacturer. I think we're somewhere between the frustration phase and the 'you should be a third party' stage. Nintendo had it last generation, so a few more slow sales months should be good enough to get the bloggers hearts pumping for the next phase.

You have slipped into Sega territory.  I remember that being said about Sega, and what had happened as a result:

1. A third-party software maker doesn't nearly get the level of attention that a console maker makes in the business.  Their titles are more apt to get lost in the shuffle, particularly if they were a former console maker.

2. There ends up being a hidden lust for exclusives console makers make, that owners of other consoles want on their own.  They think going third-party would allow them to get great titles on their system that were on the other console.  Nevermind that games were specifically coded for a given platform and would take a hit.  Multiple Dreamcast games, for example, were a disaster when they jumped onto the PS2.  One notable one was Crazy Taxi.

Who brought up 2008? I am saying that Sony have gone on record saying 2009 is the year for the PSP, which if you look at the lineup for the year, it definitely is looking that way. If one company thinks it's the year of the PS3 then it's their perogative.

And to gametrailers, every year is the year of the PS3. Apparently the Wii, 360, and PC don't have anything more impressive then what's on the PS3 this year anyways (since their e3 best of show games for those systems were DJ Hero and Assassin's Creed 2)

ummm you said anyone who says year of ps3 until 2010 is full of it no?
