Forums - Microsoft - The PS3 related turmoil amongst 360 users

I've seen 1000's of horror movies. Alan Wake doesn't seem to have anything new on any of them. A writer goes to a small town, his wife disappears, maybe there's some eldritch things behind the scenes. That's just John Carpenter's Out of the Mouth of Madness. He's standing by a car and some invisible thing starts pulling his car into the air. That is just Lost's smoke monster or a scene from one of Raimi's Evil Dead movies.

What about any genre has really changed over the last ten years? LOL

I am not sure of your motives, but I can tell you that your execution leaves something to be desired.

Everything has been done on some level before.

what!?

What I said.  I want to see one game on 360 that has a deeper than average run of the mill weekend movie on the Sc-Fi Channl.  So far, I haven't seen one and most of the games on the 360 could be Sci-Fi Channel movies in movie form.  Certainly, Gears of War doesn't have much more of a story than Starship Troopers and Alan Wake is just about like your run of the mill horror film.

On the other hand a game like The Last Guardian (and even Heavy Rain seems closer to a David Lynch film than your average horror film) seem to have deeper artistic aspirations.

lol, so PS3 exclusives are...movie level quality, in their storytelling?

...and 360 games couldn't even have their stories put on the Sci-Fi channel?

Ever play Mass Effect, Tales of Vesperia, Fallout 3, Dead Space, Lost Odyssey?

Ever see StarShip troopers or a "run of the mill" horror film on the Sci-Fi channel?

Not only did you significantly contradict yourself, but you also created one of the most insignificant and insubstantiated arguments I've ever heard on ANY subject.

What does the quality of the storyline in the best game on the Xbox 360 have to do with this thread? Have you played The Last Gaurdian or Heavy Rain? Could they be on Sci-Fi? What exactly are you implying with your statements towards the 360's top story based games library?

That the stories in what are considered to be great 360 games aren't any deeper than those in movies on The Sci-Fi Channel and are many times influenced by those movies.  Gears of War isn't any better than Starship Trooper or Dog Soldiers.  Heck, they've got a movie coming on in a couple of seconds called Savage Planet.  I'm sure it is just a B movie but better than any 360 games.

How do you figure? Gears of war has a storyline that goes much deeper than the game itself. As does the Mass effect series, and Halo series. To ignore that is pure foolishness. You sir need to leave this thread before the last thread of diginity you have left is ripped away.

Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid 4 are IMO worthy.

Mass Effect

I played it, I thought it was overhyped (besides the technical issues). BioShock is IMO much better, but in hindsight also overhyped despite being a good game.

(For the record, when released I publically stated BioShock, Mass Effect and Lost Planet looked great judging from the trailers and said I wanted them on the PS3, in hindsight IMO all 3 were overhyped originally)

From what I've been hearing. Uncharted is short enough to be a movie. So, maybe that's what the developers were going for.

But I've never had to pay $60 for a movie.

You have been misinformed. Maybe you were thinking of Heavenly Sword, that was a bit short with some of the slick movie-like cutscenes.

6-8 hours for a videogame? 10 hour max? On the amazing Blu-Ray? and with the amazing cell? That's it?

nah, uncharted is 15 to 20 hours, which is about right for that type of game.  MikeB is right, you are probably thinking of heavenly sword.

Well, 1) My friend beat the game within 9 hours and I do not really consider him to be too hardcore.

and 2) If you do a quick google search, I am sure you will find others who have commented on beating the game within 6-8 hours.

I have not played the game myself, so I cannot tell you the run time. My point is...It can be completed anywhere from 6 - 10 hours. Which I consider to be rather short for Blu-Ray technology.

again blu-ray tech has nothing todo with a games length, blu-ray is just has a very large capacity which developers are free to use or not use depending on the game they are creating.

So what excuse does a Sony exclusive developer have not to take advantage of that technology? Sony's most avid supporters seem to always imply that the 360 is the reason why developers do not take full advantage of blu-ray and the cell? What's the deal with Uncharted? As far as I know, it's not released on the 360.

6-8 hours? Where did they have time to fit in that academy award winning story?

well, given that I do own the game and have played and beaten it.  I can tell you that it took me about 14 hours.  Now, if all your are doing is just rushing through the game and have it on the easiest difficulty, you might be able to beat it in 8 hours or so.

However, you can't really judge a game by how fast you can beat it.  If you did that then you could say you could beat fallout 3 in 6 to 8 hours because thats how quick you can get through the main storyline.  Yet, fallout 3 has hundreds of hours worth of gameplay packed in.

There lots of areas to explore, secrets to collect and other things in uncharted that extend the game experience.  So, trust somebody who has actually played the game.  It's definetly more than a 10 hour game.

However, I don't think uncharted is movie quality in it's narrative by any means, which is what you were responding to.  Check my first post where I responded to MikeB.

Despite this post showing just how little you know about the forces in Alan Wake as well as the overall game design...the sad part is that your post isn't cannon at all, and I wish it was. Just two days ago the developers at Remedy said they don't see Alan Wake as a horror game at all.

I was pissed. They said it was a Psychological survival horror game way back..and now its an action game? Disappointing, Remedy.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Maybe but they all come out of some sci-fi, Von Daniken, ancient astronauts stuff that's been done innumerable times probably best exemplified in Star Wars or Battlestar Galactica.  Why don't they at least explain them all as being the dreams of a turtle like in Stephen King's
books?  At least it would be something original.

I haven't tried it on easy running through the game, which would IMO be a waste.

The much hyped Half-Life 2 (IMO worthy of the hype at the time) can be completed in well less than 2 hours. That's actually the lenght of a movie, but I did not regret buying that game for my PC.

How big was the Call of Duty 4 single player campaign? Normal run through on normal difficulty in just 5 hours I read. Why not aim your arrows at such a game instead (note you have to pay extra to play online on the 360)?

That's your experience and I do not think you can really judge other gamers' experiences without more detail.

And I doubt my friend rushed through the game. I have not played the game, so I cannot add my personal experience to agree with or disprove what you are posting.

I love how you are claiming that alan wake doesn't have anything new when you haven't even played the game or know much more than a basic synopsis of the storyline or a random scene from the 5 minutes of gameplay shown.  Please find a different example to make your point, because this one makes you look rather ignorant.

Also, you do realize that they are making gears of war into an actual movie.  I don't see them doing that with any of the ps3 exclusives...
