Some companies just confuse me. They had to know this could go badly. Wonder if it is really the real reason though. IF it is then i feel bad for her.

The question is, how many times have they done this before without anyone complaining. Those cases wouldn't appear in the media.
It's like those people who say "crime doesn't pay, criminals always get caught". No, they don't.

Actually, if maternity leave works anything like disability pay in the US. They have to hold your position until you get back, but once you are back they can demote/fire you if they wish. They just have to be able to prove that it wasn't because of any of the typical discrimination reasons. She probably won't win this, as all they have to do is have a bunch of paperwork saying why.

From the article:
But upon return, Konami allegedly demoted her and docked her pay by ¥200,000 ($2,000) per month, citing the "burden" of child rearing.
If Konami actually said that, it's clearly discrimination.

wow on two parts. (and yes, I was lazy and didn't click the link this time)
1. actually stating that.
2. getting docked $2000/month. She has to be making a lot. If I got docked that much I'd quit imediatly and find another job.

Wow, that is a horrible thing to do. If it's true, I hope she takes them to the cleaners.

Times are tuff all around, I am sure a lot of people would have just accepted this. I would probably do the same thing she did. This is total bs and it sounds like something only MS or Sony would do. :P J/K!
