Forums - Microsoft - What Kind of TV? Is anyone making them now? How much do they cost?

According to recent news, Microsoft is not planning on releasing their next gaming console after the 360 series until a new type of (3D?) stereoscopic tv becomes more widespread (I guess when you can pick them up at Wal~Mart for under $2,000.00).

I am just wondering what kind of tvs are these?  Is anyone making them now and how much do they currently cost?  Will they have a negative impact on current digital tvs (ie. after fifty years of standard tvs ruling the living room, this decade has seen the rise of hd tvs, and of tv stations switching to digital signals, will the next decade bring a time when tvs (that you used to be able to keep for ten or more years in past decades) will have to be switched out almost as regularly as computers always have to keep up with the latest trends in broadcasting technology)?

if this is true, its absolutely ridiculous.

i just paid 2 gs for a tv, im not buying a new one for gears of war 4 . . .

honestly, this has to be a joke.

if not 360 is my last time jumping in.

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

Maybe they mean until HD TVS are more widespread. Otherwise, waiting for a wholw new gen of TVs is just stupid.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

@txrattlesnake: Can you provide a link to the news in your link?

As for the topic, some HDTVs sold today are "3D ready". Here is a list:

They started selling them in 2007.

They're talking about keeping 360 active until a whole new generation of 3d (I think it is supposed to be 3d) stereoscopic hd tvs are widespread.

""I heard regarding the next Xbox is that it won't launch until a certain type of television becomes more widespread because in addition to built-in Natal tech, a key feature of the next Xbox would be full HD stereoscopic 3D visuals similar to 3D movie theatres," the website reports."

IMO Sony is certainly looking down this avenue also. They did some stuff a while back with Gran Turismo in 3D.

Hm. Well if the NewBox can't work with normal HD or SD TVs, I won't be jumping in next gen. But Microsoft wouldn't be that narrow-minded since their competition certainly won't be.

Well neXbox will fail if it requires people to upgrade their TVs to the stereoscopic TV. I think majority of people are content with the current TVs. Getting rid of the fat tube tvs and HD is enough to last for years longer than the next gen consoles to be released.

Some people are already getting confused with LCD to LED and OLED XD

I'm curious about these new tvs for more than just 360 games actually. I have some collections of burlesque dvds from Something Weird video that are supposed to be in 3d but they don't seem very 3d to me with my current lcd television and standard white paper 3d glasses with the blue and red lenses.

^^^

hooray for 3d burlesque!
