Wow, the Habs also gave away McDonagh, a pretty good prospect, for Gomez, whose cap hit is over $7m. Damn.

Honestly, Montreal has more prospects then they know what to do with. We still have guys playing in Hamilton that I think should be tested in the NHL. That's not a problem for me.

The only thing that I don't like about the trade is the contract length + cap hit. But to land a star in Montreal we would have had to overpay for sure anyway.

I still think they had a good chance of landing Vinny for a contract that wouldn't be all that much bigger. But I'll take your word for the prospects.

Lecavalier to Minnesota might be looking a bit more likely now. I heard that they're totally revamping their game to a more offensively oriented style...the year that Gaborik leaves.

I bet Lecavalier doesn't move anywhere.

^ I would say he has a 50/50 chance. When the ownership issues in Tampa settle themselves, then we'll see. According to TSN, the two owners are butting heads over many things, including Vinny's future on the team.

Where does everyone think Jonas Gustavsson will end up? The teams have supposedly been narrowed down to Dallas and Toronto.  I'm a Leafs fan (don't shoot me) so I would love to see him be a pillar in their rebuilding efforts.

At the outset of the sweepstakes for him, I would have thought San Jose. He could have come in as the backup this year, since he wanted to be eased in, and then become the eventual starter.

Nabokov is in his mid 30's and isn't getting any younger. This would have allowed him to start maybe 55 or 60 games instead of his usual 70, leaving him fresher for the playoffs.

Now though, if that article is reliable, then I'd say it was 50/50.

JayBo's a Flame. Early report is 6.6m a year, unknown years.

^ It seems to ba a 5 year deal

Phaneuf 6.5m
Regehr 4m
Sarich 3.6m
Bouwmeester 6.6m

= 20.7m on four defencemen.....

That's a lot of money for a blueline. But it is one HELL of a blueline. They look like a contender now, especially if Vancouver can't get a repeat performance from Luongo/hold onto the Sedins.
