Under NY law, you have to use physical force (ie, touch them), intimidation, or deception to be guilty of unlawful imprisonment.

If he were going to be charged, he would have been. A jury isn't going to convict a cabbie of locking a fare-cheater in his car, especially not one who was assaulted as a result.

Cool. So I'll just go to New York and lock some hot bitch in my car... Got a link for that? Non-pdf file cause my computer can't DL adobe for some reason.

Mathieu Schneider is apparently close to signing with the 'Nucks. I usually don't put much stock into these sorts of reports, but it's by Dan Murphy, a reporter who travels with the team and is around them all season. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2009/08/24/canucks_schneider/

If true, on a 1 year deal $1.5-2.25M, this could be an excellent stop-gap till someone else is available next year. He'd be good on the PP, and at helping the break out, which is a need that our D has. He's not the best defensively, and is rather old but if he can play 15-18 minutes a game (he averaged over 20 last year), I'd be happy with that. I'd prefer going after Seidenberg myself, however rumors state that he's looking for over $3M on a long term deal.

Well, this is out of the blue - Canucks acquire Ehrhoff and Lukowich from the Sharks in exchange for prospects Daniel Rahimi and Patrick White. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=289113

I have no idea why the Sharks would do this value wise - Rahimi is an ok defenseman. He's big, but doesn't use his size. Patrick White was a disappointment - he didn't seem to progress very much after being drafted. The only thing I can think of is that SJ has something big planned - Heatley? If the Sharks stop at this trade, I'll assume Doug Wilson has sustained some brain damage sometime over the summer.

or a salary dump. Did both those players play regularly in the NHL or were they still in the farm system somewhere? also makes for more sense for Vancouver than acquiring Shneider

Rahimi was playing in the AHL, White in College.

However, the Canucks just announced the signing of Schneider (http://canucks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=486941) - maybe we're going after Heatley?

covers the Sharks-Nucks trade & the Schneider signing

Hmm, looks like I was wrong about Rahimi. It appears he loves hitting, but sometimes puts himself out of position. And apparently he was demoted to the ECHL (because the Moose had too many defenseman). Perhaps he was coming off of injury when I saw him, or maybe he had just been called up then. I guess he sounds like he's a Douglas Murray lite, would you agree?

Based on what you provided he does. I honestly haven't heard of these guys the Sharks picked up until today. A number of Sharks blogs (and comments) seem to think something big/else is gonna happen now that we are under the cap with this trade. However we have 17 players signed, so we need to do just than just acquire Heatley (Ehrhoff was one of the trading pieces for him & Heatley to the sharks "talks" seemed to have gone cold).

Well, White has been the butt end of jokes on Canuck forums since he was drafted. He might turn into a checker one day (he certainly does not seem to posess top 6 hockey IQ) but I wouldn't bet on it. However, it appears if he's not signed to a contract by the 2011 season, you guys get an extra 2nd round pick (#55, since that would be the 25th pick in the 2nd round - White was drafted #25 in the first round) from the league. This makes the trade make more sense - a prospect and a (delayed) 2nd rounder for Erhoff + cap dump.
