You obviously are oblivious to what a spin off is... and a little piece of me just died inside as I realize there is no hope for the world

So basically if it doesn't fit into the current storyline it's a spin off right? I'm fairly sure that's what everyone else is saying that you're arguing against also. The thing is, it's likely this game will follow that storyline, so I don't see good odds that it will be a spin off. In any case, no storyline details have emerged, so arguing about it one way or another is pointless right now, don't you think?

Also the storyline is supposed to revolve around the Metal Gears. That is where the name derives from. They are the crux behind all of the games, and that is what ties them all together, regardless of who the main character is.

I've been saying all through the thread that it would need to have more similarities than just the hero needs to destroy a walking tank to not be a spin off. What people have been arguing with me about is that it isn't one.

The Metal Gears are the Universe that the story takes place in. The technology that bad men are trying to get a hold of in order to dominate. So of course the Metal Gears will be in MGSR. But I'll say it again. There needs to be more similarities.

I don't know why people are so defensive about calling it what it is. In no way does that mean it will be a bad game. Just because it's a spin off doesn't mean it needs to be in the same league as Mario vs Mario Party. Hell, Frasier was a spin off of Cheers and I think Frasier was a better show.

So please show me a link that says MGS:R will not follow any part of the previous MGS storyline and you will be right. Since you don't have that link and since Raiden has previously played as the main character in an MGS game then it's fair to assume this will be tied into the main story somehow if not a continuation of the main story line.

If Bungie made a game about the Master Chief that had nothing to do with the human and covenant war would you call that game a spin off? Is Halo: Reach a spin off?  I think your the one that has to go back and read up on the definition of a couple key words.

Spin off literally means what it says. It spins off of a main story into a new one.

^ lol ODST**** is a standalone expansion. It cover the timeline between halo 2 and halo 3. Hence, it's called Halo 3: ODST not Halo ODST

Halo 3: ODST is not a spin off its an expansion, hence the name Halo 3 in the beginning. Its like the Half-life episodes.

And now we see the problem with your argument. Any game that features the main protagonist and is considered cannon by the developer is NOT a spin off. Therefore if the next Halo game has the Master Chief fighting the forerunners in another galaxy it is not a spin off, it is a continuation of the main series. Hence why MGS:R, with Raiden who has played as a main character before, is not a spin off but a continuation of the series. Also note that a the next instalment in a series does not have to advance the time line yet it will still be considered as part of the main series.

Halo: Reach is the game that takes place just before Halo:CE. It involves the story of how all the Spartans except the Master Chief die and sets up the story for the first game. Hence it is not a spin off but considered part of the main series of Halo games.

It's already been stated by the man himself that 1) he will be deeply involved and 2) he is looking to push the graphics further than MGS 4.

The PS3 fanboys never cease to amaze me. The X-box brand is a formidable foe this generation. Things will not be as easy as before. Get used to it. Microsoft and Nintendo have changed the playing field this gen.

Dear lord... people learn what spin offs are. The main story of Halo 3 revolved around a Spartan, Master Chief. Just because the game breaks away into a spin off doesn't mean it's a different universe. The same events happen in spin offs. Master Chief blew some Halos up already. Spin offs are set in the same time period. Spin offs are set in current events. Just because it is "Halo 3" doesnt mean it isnt a spin off.
