Forums - Microsoft - Project Natal On Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Natal to cost $60-$70.

Around the Network

LOL.  I was just scrolling through the myriad of PS3 fanboy comments on a Natal article on N4G and I ran across this:

"1.7 - Of course it's a BIG deal, it's never been done before on a Console...I can't wait to play the re-make of "TRON" on there...

with the new 3D Screens and games....

Imagine if the camera can map a face or take a picture and use that in the game..."

Someone else wants a remake of the "TRON" disc throwing game.  Made my damn day right there.  Who at Microsoft do I need to talk to, to make this happen?

I don't see how it would cost more than Sony's Eye Toy and 2 WiiMote knock offs.

How much do you think it will cost?  I don't see it costing over $100 bucks (for the sensor and a game package).

You would probably need to talk to someone at Disney, because I think they own the rights to the film and franchise.

I am into motion controls. The reason I have not purchased a Wii is because there are few if any games that interest me that have motion controls. I like the idea of motion controls, but want motion controls in games I care for...Which the Wii doesn't have.

As I've been saying, I want an Elder Scrolls-type experience with motion controls - being able to hack away, defend with a shield, talk to people, and do all that cool stuff. Does the Wii have any games like that, at the moment? WM+ isn't out yet, AFAIK, so I haven't seen any upcoming games that do that, other than Red Steel 2.

And having said all of that, I don't think I really want to go out and spend $250 on a Wii + WM+ for a grand total fo $280 when I may be able to get a similar experience with the games I want on the X360 + NATAL without having to invest in another console.

Well, thank you for the nice reply...at least we can now have a civilized convo without being blamed as a fanboy.

You are right in the fact that there aren't many games on the Wii which caters to those who lust for violence, gore, and cinematics of mass proportions. Sure, we may have Metroid Trilogy coming out, Red Steel 2 (which is showing a lot of promise), The Conduit (which isn't that great, but it is a step in the right direction) and others, but they don't have the hype that matches with other games on the HD console.

Which is why I'd prefer keeping a console that has said games, and hope for motion control.

Red Steel 2 and the upcoming Zelda Wii game may be able to have an Elder Scrolls-type experience with motion controls, but it seems you lost all trust in the Wii and replaced it with the future potential of the Natal Project.

Correct. I've seen 3 years of games that don't appeal to me on the Wii, and 3 years of games on the 360 that do. So I tend to place my bets with the 360. I could easily be wrong, but I'm just going off what I've see.

My question to you is this: what makes you think this peripheral will fulfill your needs and requirements? Just recently, Shane Kim was quoted as such that they are not aiming at the current "casual" gamers nor are they aiming at the PS2 gamers who haven't bought a current gen console, but they are targeting the 60% households who don't have a console at all and haven't played any videogames when it comes to the NATAL project.

Please re-watch the video. You'll notice that they ported Burnout Paradise to NATAL. BP is a rather large core game. I would hope and assume that a few developers will allow for NATAL controls on their upcoming game. What if FNR4 offers NATAL controls? The Elder Scrolls V? Mass Effect 2? Then I will have exactly what I want.

If that is the case, where do the "core" gamers come in? Nowhere, that's where.

Core gamers come in when a developer knows that the 360 can sell core games like nobody's business, and attempts to intergrate NATAL and a core gaming experience. Microsoft may not go after the core audiences with NATAL, but I can assure that at least one developer will. And if they do it right, then I will buy NATAL for their game.

I'm not trying to slam what the Wii has. It has it's market, and knows it well. However, given my gaming preferences, I want something that Nintendo offers little of, and Microsoft offers much of. Therefore, I am going to wait and see if it'd be better to plunk down $250 for a Wii soon, or $60-70 for NATAL.

@pakidan, I share similar views as mrstickball. At first, I wasn't interested in Natal. I thought it looked stupid on the E3 conference, but after hearing that Burnout Paradise will support Natal, I became interested in it because it gave me slight hope that other 'core' games will support Natal. Microsoft is somewhat teasing Halo with Natal controls. That would be sweet. Natal has a lot of potential, but time will tell whether MS and other developers will dish out 'core' titles. I can certainly see Fable 3 supporting Natal for some reason.

I commend Nintendo for what they did with the Wii, but a lot of titles on it don't interest me. If you have fun with the Wii games, then be my guest. I won't shove Metacritic scores down your throat; everyone has different taste/opinions. I will buy a Wii for Muramasa - I adored Odin Sphere. :)

They can drop the license if they need to.

Wow, I haven't seen this amount of hate for a "pre alpha" tech demo ever.

Then clearly you weren't around when the Wii tech was first shown off

I don't recall it having a tech demo.

Rewind to 2005. People were furious. You might as well had thought a bunch of dudes found out their girls were cheating on them =)

Wasn't there a tech demo for the Gamecube showing a mature Zelda, then Nintendo released a cell-shaded Zelda and everybody whined about it

Yup, you are correct. I think it was Spaceworld 2001 or so, they showed the mature Zelda tech demo, and then gave everyone Wind Waker. That was a fiasco. I think that that time frame was the worst Ive ever seen the internet. As the catch phrase was - Celda.
