Forums - Microsoft - Need Help ( Downloads New 360 )

Ok so I got my Son a 360 for his room..

I got his gamertag on his own 360 but I have a question..

over the years we downloaded stuff on both our accounts, like games and DLC some went under my name, some under his..

so the games /DLC that are under my name he can no longer get on his 360 right?

Is there a chance I call Xbox and tell them I would like my Son to have the same DLC as mine, so I do not have to pay twice?

I don't really want to pay for two sets of everything like games and DLC..

Also I still have his name in my 360, if I connect online using his name by mistake, and he's online in his room, will that cause some kind of problem?

Also #2 if I transfer my gamertag to his 360 and redownload all the DLC to it, but he never signs under my name will that work?  ( I think it will )

When you download a game you can't download it again on a other system it remembers witch system it was downloaded on. (A lot of people would have switched gamercards if it was possible) you can call MS for it so they can change the system's code so you can download it on a other Xbox 360 but then it will not work anymore on the old one.

You can ask MS for it but I am sure they will say something like this:

'So you say it is your son how do we know it is not a friend of you?'.

Bro, pretty much what he said. Plus its a new console so anything from the older console under a different gamertag will not be able to be re-downloaded.

Buying again for your son is the only option.

hmm...

edit: my mistake. I thought licenses were tied solely to the gamertag, in that your son could transfer his licenses to his 360, but unfortunately it would transfer the stuff downloaded under your gamertag as well. Sucks that it's tied to the console and not the gamertag.

If some of the DLC was bought under his gamertag he would probably be able to use it on his Xbox if logged into Live. If not logged in it probably wont as the Serial Number its tied to is different

That would work if you use the license migration tool. Without using the tool, he would have to connect to live under your name to play that content on his console. lol it's all very confusing.

The best way I can think of for him to use the dlc would be to recover your gamer-tag to his console every time he wants to use the dlc, the process takes about 5 minutes. However doing this he can not play the dlc using his own gamer-tag and you need to recover your gt back to your console every time he does this. Otherwise the only other way would be if you both played on the same 360, then you could use both gt's since the dlc license is tied to the original console.

The definitive evidence that video games turn people into mass murderers

I have 2 360s. The first one (launch unit), I used to register my gamertag and I never downloaded any games on that one. Then I got a second 360 (launch elite), and put my memory card in that one to use my gamertag. Every time I download a game on my new 360, it still registers the download to the first 360 that I made my gamertag on. I have to be logged on to XBL on my elite in order to use any downloads.

Whichever 360 you made your gamertag on is the one that every download you make, regardless which 360, gets registered to. You'll have to migrate your son's gamertag to the new 360 in order to have that 360 the home console for that gamertag.

Edit:

You can download any demo on XBL on any 360 that isn't yours. As long as you use the gamertag that you bought the game with, you can always play it as a full game on other consoles, as long as your logged on XBL.

This is when the HDD comes in handy.

I tried to do the samething he did when I had a 360 but couldn't do it.
