The world’s premier trading card game, Magic: The Gathering is coming to Xbox LIVE® Arcade on June 17th! Experience Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers, an epic game of fantasy & strategy, as you unleash a torrent of fantastic creatures and devastating spells to destroy online foes in your quest for domination!

Q. Can I purchase additional cards for my decks?

A. No, in Duels of the Planeswalkers all the cards in the set are available by defeating opponents.

Q. Will there be expansions or additional decks released for additional game play?

A. Yes, there will be expansions available for Duels of the Planeswalkers.

Q: What game modes will be available in the Xbox LIVE Arcade version?

A: The Xbox LIVE Arcade version of Duels of the Planeswalkers features a full single player campaign game vs. AI opponents and a second cooperative (two-headed giant) campaign vs. AI opponents. Duels of the Planeswalkers also offers online two player, online cooperative (two-headed giant) play, as well as 3 and 4 player online multiplayer (free for all) game play.

Q. Is there trading in Duels of the Planeswalkers?

A. Duels of the Planeswalkers does not support trading; you can unlock all the cards in the game by simply playing!

Duels of the Planeswalkers game play starts with two of the core decks (Chandra and Garruk) at your disposal. You'll find that as you successfully complete challenges you'll unlock additional cards, which you can use to customize your deck. Defeating Planeswalker challengers in the Campaign game is special—not only do you unlock additional cards for winning, but you'll have the opportunity to unlock all eight playable decks.

Duels of the Planeswalkers also provides free-for-all multiplayer play. Two-, three-, and four-player free-for-all matches are available, with opponents selected from your friends, matched via the Xbox LIVE matching system.

Duels of the Planeswalkers also delivers a full suite of fun learn to play options. Duels being a digital game allows us to teach the rules of Magic in a controlled, fun environment. This can easily be seen from the Duels tutorial. Instead of reading a wall of text in a rule book, you just start playing the tutorial. The AI guides you through your first game, but you're playing Magic from the very start.

Duels of the Planeswalkers is fully integrated into the Xbox LIVE system. As mentioned, Duels uses the TrueSkill ranking and matchmaking system. Duels is also part of the Xbox achievement system, with 12 achievements (200 points worth). These achievements range from defeating certain special opponents to accomplishing unusual game conditions.

Duels makes extensive use of the Xbox Leaderboards, providing Leaderboards for your friends and the public for ranked match play. There are additional Leaderboards for multiplayer play and even a Leaderboard for top-rated Mentors.

Duels is also part of the Xbox LIVE Marketplace, providing additional theme and picture packs so you can sport a Magic: The Gathering look on your Xbox while playing Duels or other Xbox games.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

So, it's just one set?

Are all sets available?

Is there a single player mode?

We'll miss you George.

Only about 220 cards in this release, more sets in the future as DLC.

Single player campaign mode as well as multiplayer online.

My most anticipated game of 2009. It's been about ten years since I played MTG, and at 800 MS points and NO BUYING VIRTUAL BOOSTERS and I'm sold. I'll gladly pay 400 MS points for new card sets though. It's like the old Microprose version is reborn. :)

Ive been reading the site on gamefaqs, and it seems that decks are not fully customizable.

This makes it auto-fail to me.

This might be interesting but after a week it's going to turn into the same exact deck vs. the same exact deck. It's like I'm playing SFIV but instead of seeing Ken after Ken, I'll just see x deck after x deck.

I'll stick with Magic Workstation.

I would think if the decks are more readily available it would be like seeing Sagat and Sagat all the time since they'd go after the best possible deck since I don't think people have any attachment to cards as they would to half-America half-Japanese blonde shotokan fighters.

Whatever, you obviously get my point.  :-p

800 MS points. That's too cheap to bitch about. I think it's only in single player campaign the decks aren't fully customizable.

I was afraid it'd be between 1600-2400 MS points.
