Sounds like Pachter is talking out of his ass about the Go being cheaper to make than the PSP-3000.
The Go is too expensive, however. It should be $200, not $250.

I think he's probably right on that. Taking out the UMD drive and having a smaller screen should be cheaper than 16 GB of memory, or even if it's more expensive it must be a small difference.

The guys at Sony basically said it themselves. They said - quoting from memory but as literally as I can - that it's aimed at "tech-savy users, interested into the latest technological gadgets".
IE for the time being they're positioning it as a premium product, the "old" PSP still being produced and supported as the base one.
Just remember kids $250 = $250 = 250 euros

If someone was interessted in a sony product surly they would "find" the extra £50 to get a PS3 over a PSP Go.

I don't like portables, so Ninty and Sony can price them even at $400 if they want (*)... But Nintendo MUST cut Wii down to under $150!!!
(*) Actually I'm mildly interested in DS' interactive cookbooks, so if DS were priced under $80, I could become interested...
