Forums - Gaming - How do you feel about Apple making a console of their own

When we think of consoles, it's always about Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. But what if a new contender stepped in. Apple machines are all very powerful and they specialize in graphics arts so to me it wouldn't be much of a surprise if they entered the console race. My question to you is: do you think that Apple will enter the console race in the next generation (so around 2015 or 2017) and how do you think it will hold up against the current console giants.

Personally I feel that if Apple makes a console, it will be extremely expensive like the rest of their products, but the specs and the power of the console will be outstanding. Not only that, but I think a lot of people will end up supporting Apple mainly because they already know how amazing the rest of their products are.

So what's your opinion on all this?

I'm pretty sure an Apple Console would pretty fast become a "must-have" just like the ipod/phone.
I'd definetely buy it because I think the design of their products is just beautiful.

I'd only want to try another home console to see them fail again. I do not like Apple at all. I'd rather see a system from Sega or SNK which probably never happen again.

IF they made a console (big if)...I wonder what they would call it...iGame, iPlay....there would definitely be an i in front though...they are now renowned for doing that

I actually think this is a fairly strong possibility.

I'd have to see how good it is before I buy. I hate and like apple. Some of they're stuff is awesome and some just suck. Mostly because they just segregate everything so much. They are also more high end/luxury than anything else.

Both their segregation practices and their pricepoints etc don't transfer well at all for a venture into the gaming industry.

To succeed they'd have to change company policies and practices at least for the gaming division. They do that and they have a shot.

I too wanna see sega make another console. They need to make a ton of games and some amazingly great selling flagship games to ever have the money to attempt this again.

I trust microsoft more than apple though. That's why I prefer MS. You can trust they're gonna do everything to give you the best experience and aren't afraid to make the tough decisions. Money....is no object.

It would sell well because of brand name..
but we have enough already =/

Would the controller only have 1 button? J/K I know apple has a large following already and the apple fanboys would pick up the console. Only if the fanboys are gamers as well will determine if the system can do well with them only. If they are non-gamers I don't see them buying many games. If they are gamers then I see them as a huge stepping stone in getting other people to buy it. I also don't think Apple will overprice their device. I think they will take the Wii approach but add $100 worth of extras to make the console around $350.

What do you call a guy in middle management, who moves all the way up to upper management? A promotion. Thanks...here's a memo. (referring to cartoon above me)

Even if it worked, it wouldn't increase the number of good games (Apple is unlikely to start up a first-party team from scratch; they would buy in talent and contract third-parties just as MS has done as game development is not their area of expertise). So it would just dilute the number of exclusive games and take them away from MS and Sony.

That would lead to third-parties dropping the least profitable platform out of X360/PS3/Apple-console/PC (since a four-way porting strategy is ridiculous), and assuming that isn't Apple it would be Sony.

So all Apple entering the market would do is:

i) Decrease the number of games people with a given console can play
ii) Hurt Sony a lot more than Microsoft

Lol, Come buy our Apple console! The same specs as the XboxNext and PS4, but 3x the price! Our console OS doesn't get PC viruses! Yay!
