Oh yeah, The Beach. :) Personally, I loved the movie. I think he was playing a Rampage game on his GB also. The scene where he's in a game is funny, but the shark story scene is the one that got me.

I liked the Mortal Kombat movies and the Resident Evil movies. Mortal Kombat was tight seeing my favorite characters like Raiden and Shu Kang battle it out.

Does "The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters" count? I know it's a documentary, but it is based on a video game. Before the documentary they showed an episode of "Starcade" and some old video game commercials, which were just horrible. (They also showed trailers for "Tron" and "The Wizard.")

I liked the Resident Evil movies, especially Extinction. I shudder at the thought of the Mario movie, though...

Wasn't The Thirteenth Floor about being inside a videogame?

I think overall movies based on video games have a pretty poor batting record.

There is, however, one movie that at least pertially inspired two video games - with the video games being critically acclaimed and genre-breaking. The movie is camp, but great camp and both movie and video games have their cult followings.

The games are Doom and Duke Nukem 3D. Can anyone guess the movie?

Army of Darkness: "Come get some" and "It's time to chew bubble gum and kick some ass - and I'm all out of bubble gum" were actual lines in the movie that were repeated in DN3D while the chainsaw and sawed-off shotgun made their way into Doom.

The first MK movie was good, the second...

Silent Hill was very average, I kinda liked it but they messed it in explaining aaaaaaall that happened to the girl. I was falling asleep at that.

Street Fighter was kick ass. Greatest video game movie EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, and it was great.

Hmm...The Lawnmover Man of course. Liked the first but the second was terrible.

Inside Man has a kid playing some GTA game on his PSP.

Maybe we should have two threads, one for "video games made into movies" and one for "movies featuring video games in some way".
