As the game industry is now, there are number of games that have great play through once experience, but tend to lack on the replayability front. These games have room in the market, because you can resell them, and get some money back. However, if digital distribution becomes standard, and medium that can be transferred ends up going away, what will it mean for play through once games? Will the norm for gaming consist of having increased replayability added to them? In this, you give players level editors, or at least provide multiplayer play? If the play through once games don't go away, will an inexpensive rental model end up being the norm? You can rent a game for a week or two and beat it and be done with it?
A game like Mirror's Edge, which has limited replayability, would be an example. Unless there was an expensive way to play the game, or a way you could end up reselling it after done, would it even have a market?
Anyone else have any opinion here? The latest Mario vs Donkey Kong game, coming with a level editor, comes to mind as to an indication of the future.
