Forums - Microsoft - Turn 10: Polyphony checked out Forza 3 at E3

I don't understand the pain and torment in this thread. Its not like theres any shame in Turn 10 trying their hardest to best Polyphony when thats probably the most commendable attitude as it raises the bar overall. Theres also no shame in Polyphony taking ages to release and waiting until they are happy with the game. I think as gamers we will probably be better off and as we have seen the new Nascar and WRC modes are really picking up some extra enthusiasm. Noone will be happy with a half arsed GT5.

I love how some people in here act like they are no longer fanboys post E3.....

I commend Turn 10 for talking smack about Polyphony.....It's about time some one did.....

Regardless..When GT5 comes out people will say that it looks better than Forza 3 and plays better and a host of other reasons why Forza 3 is not on the same level with GT5....

The problem is that people will say that GT5 plays WAY better than Forza 3 and look WAY better too. Im looking forward to Forza 3 receiving massive sales and critical acclaim if only to shut certain people up. Its the stupid hyperbole which gets to me the most in this topic. Its especially a problem because the games are so similar. They are essentially making a very similar game in look, style and gameplay.

Yes...Except..Forza 3 did not take that long to make....

This thread still going?

Look Turn 10 know that

1) - GT5 will probably sell more (probably, right, as in based on historic sales, not definately)

2) - that GT5 will probably remain the premier brand

3) - that with Forza 3 they believe they've really got themselves up to, close to or even better than, the PD level in terms of the actual game

4) - that as each title is exclusive to each platform they will not compete for sales and Forza 3 sales are 'safe' no matter what GT 5 is like (the same holds true for GT5 I believe)

5) - that if PD comes to their stand its worth calling out for extra attention and as a means of getting more people to think that 3) above may be true.

6) - its more attention, more marketing inches for their game, etc. - i.e. not a bad thing

So if I was Turn 10 I would have followed the same path. However I would have used different language.

Why?

Well, sure their statement is likely to generate more of 6) above as it is more provocative, and it does make them look more confident (from one perspective) and is likely to please 360 fans - but from a business perspective it makes them look a trifle insecure (from another perspective) and unprofessional.

It also makes it clear that they're not number 1 as in business that kind of language is normally seen when the pretender for the throne' to use that analogy, is unconsciously admitting that the 'king' is still on his throne.

But it's their call in the end and they wanted to posture. No big deal.

Due to 1), 2) and 4) above I doubt PD are that bothered.

As far as I'm concerned it looks very likely that both PS3 and 360 owners are going to each get a fantastic driving title - that's what counts.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Exactly, this is marketing. It's basically turn 10 joining the microsoft-sony smack talk war in the hopes of getting publicity, and I wouldn't be surprised if this continues for a while and is part of the larger marketing campaign -- probably part of microsoft's hope that they can counter a major competitor's system seller, Gran Tourismo. I guess we'll see if the fine folks at turn 10 can and want to keep it up.

I'd like to see a thread titled:

Polyphony: Turn 10 checked out GT when they were toddlers.

But that probably wouldn't tell us anything we don't know :)

Polyphony aren't above making comments about the competition, they are just more subtle about it. 'but one way you can look at it is, you can buy a watch that is super multifunctional, but economical, or a watch that is reduced in functions, but premium - higher end'
