It's sad that Ensemble is gone, but if this could be made, would you want it? I heard it was planned to take place in the Civil War times. What do you think?

It'd still probably be made. They split into two functional studios along the same lines as the internal teams at Ensemble. Its probably for the best as their game output vs talent and numbers was quite low.

It has to be as good as Age of Empires II. I was a bit disappointed in III, to be honest...
I do wish Ensemble was still around, but if someone was to make it, it just needs to be good. AoE II good. The Civil War could be an interesting setting, and it would be interesting to see what a developer might do with that. Dunno if I'd like it or not though.

I'd also like to see an Age of Mythology II. I've had a ton of fun with the first game; almost as good at AoE II in many ways, and better in many others.

Disclaimer: Sorry if this post seems a bit incoherent, I'm up rather late and probably shouldn't be online right now. And I was all excited to see a thread about Age of Empires. XD

I would love for them to go back to the beginning. I thought the first one was the best in terms of setting and civilizations. However, it is barely playable these days when you have played some of the later ones and got used to all the improvements they made. Age of Myth was sort of in that period but had those fantasy elements that really took away from the feel of the first game. Once they made AOE3, they really lost me. I thought it was too far forward in time and they added some weird elements that were kind of boring. Of course, if they remade AOE2 I would also b happ because that was an awesome game (probably the best in the series).

Not sure...III was a BIG disappointment, a huge letdown compared to the amazing, fantastic, brillant masterpiece that was II.

I realized that the era it was set was perfect, one of the big flaws of III is that the era was less interesting...I don't want AoE with pistols and grenades. Plus, it made tweaks to the formula that were to the worse.

Still, if there was a AoE4 that plays similar to the style of II, sure, gimme now

I'm with Zexen. III disappointed me a LOT. AoE is far more fun with swords and spears. Introducing guns to the mix makes for a less-than-interesting era, and yeah, the changes to the gameplay mechanics were mediocre at best.

AOE 1 and 2 was awesome. I played the crap out of those two games. 3 not so much. If 4 were made though, they would have to do something quite new. I think Age of Empires 4: Modern Warfare would be a great game.

If they remade AOEII. That game was.... AWESOME. I played it on windows 98, still playing it, but now on vista. AOM was also extremely good. Not as perfect... but very good. AOEIII was just....good.

I agree that AOEII was amazing and I too played the hell out of that game. I also agree that playing in that time frame is way more fun. I found the same thing happened when I played Rise of Nations when it eventually got to the more modern weaponry I didn't have nearly as much fun. It would awesome if they did a new version like AOEII, and made it on the 360 too :). I don't think there's anything "Emperial" about the Civil War, the old west, or anything more modern.

They should go back to older times. Remake AOE II!
