Even people with perfect vision wouldn't benefit from above 1080p resolution at typical TV viewing distances. What it would achieve is i) consuming a few years of GPU progress just to increase resolution rather than graphical effects and ii) Double the design budget of HD games, which already have to sell roughly a million to break even.

Interface innovation is the way forward for new consoles, starting with motion control.
