it's crazy how this and the NATAL thing came out at the same time, must be industrial spying going on....

but seriously this, the NATAL, and the EyeToy are all basically the same - what's different is the software, Microsoft is touting some pretty cool and unique stuff for their software but unfortunately for all 3 I will not be a purchaser (at least not until something more appealing comes along software wise.)

No, the hardware and software is different.  MS utilizes an infrared projector and a CMOS sensor to detect depth information.  Creating a skeletal system comprised of 48 discrete points.  Can this and the EyeToy do that?  I know the EyeToy cannot, I don't know what the hardware on this thing is.

I doubt this thing is much more sophisticated than your typical webcam.

As for the article, in my experience, people too ashamed to look at themselves in a mirror don't have the emotional strength to improve their fitness, anyway. :P

Or the physical strength :P lol

Yeah Microsoft uses Gesturetek technology http://www.gesturetek.com/3ddepth/introduction.php

I didn't really like how they tried to pass it off as their tech

Nintendo did the same thing. Atleast Nintendo took some initiative with the controller though, the nunchuk (wtf is that 3 yrs ago) has now become accepted.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
