While rumours about an Xbox LIVE! Arcade conversion of RARE’s critically acclaimed Nintendo 64 release, Perfect Dark, have persisted since months after the launch of the Xbox 360, the involved parties have remained typically tight-lipped about the prospect. These rumours once again gained speed prior to this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), held in Los Angeles this last week, leading right up to an official announcement direct from Microsoft.
Officially due for release this winter, Perfect Dark will hit the Xbox LIVE! Arcade with renewed vigour, according to details revealed by Microsoft. The game will be Perfect Dark XBLA Screenshotavailable in High-Definition, and is suggested to benefit from a smoother framerate than the original release. In addition, the game will reportedly receive added features to capitalise on Xbox LIVE!. While online multi-player is a given, the first batch of screenshots hint towards the possible implantation of a oft mourned feature of the first title.
The original Nintendo64 release of Perfect Dark, prior to it’s much delayed release, touted a feature in which players would be able to utilise the Game Boy Camera through the Ninten64 Game Boy Transfer Pak accessory in conjunction with the game in order to capture images of a players face, and then map these images onto an in-game Character Model for multi-player. This feature, however, was locked-out in the final build due to fears that children may find the virtual appeal of shooting their real-life friends to great. However, as time rolls on and technology has advanced,Perfect Dark XBLA Screenshot the option to do so has become commonplace within many videogame series. The first batch of screenshots for the Xbox LIVE! Arcade conversion of Perfect Dark displays a solitary enemy; a female with long black hair and what appears to be silver earrings. With none of the Electronic Theatre team, most of which lost far too much time to the original release, recognising this Character Model, we booted-up the original Nintendo64 release and found that, indeed, it does not appear that this enemy was included in the original release.
While this could mean many things, from RARE having decided to include a few assets developed for but remaining unused in the original release to a more dramatic visual overhaul than has been suggested, Electronic Theatre remains hopeful that RARE have taken the opportunity to incorporate the Xbox LIVE! Vision Camera and allow gamers to map their own faces onto the game’s Character Models.
With the Xbox LIVE! Arcade release of Perfect Dark still around six month away, details are likely to start arriving at increasingly regular intervals. Electronic Theatre will, of course, be keeping you informed.
