Forums - Sony - Sony Wand Dev. Kits already sent out !

The precision they showed was much better than what wii has demonstrated (even with motion Plus).

They had showed some other stuff with PS3eye several years ago without the wand. This seems like a step up from that. I believe there was a thread on VGchartz about the earlier PS3eye stuff.

I really don't see it. Which part of Sony's demo showed better precision than the Wii MotionPlus demos?

So Sony is just what, 12-24 months behind Nintendo in motion controls? (not counting market penetration which makes it worse)

What are you counting ? cause technology wise they're ahead.

They didn't show anything in their demo that the Wii couldn't do, except the camera part taking a person to the screen.

That can be done with any camera, but it doesn't seem like a big deal so I don't see how Sony is ahead of Nintendo in any significant way.

The thing is the technology and stuff the ps eye is capable off all by itself is pretty amazing. Combine it with the glowing sticks they showed off and you have the best of both worlds. It reaches far beyond what the wii mote is capable of.. and what Natal is capable of. By combining very awesome camera technology (cause the ps eye is by no means a ordenary camera) with true 1-1 tracking that tracks more precisely than the wii (thers a number the wii (with motion plus) has to guestimate that this wand is capable of doing without any guestimations.

Ofcourse people didn't think eye pet was amazing.. because we all thought it was concept. Turns out it's all ingame. Which to me was something i didn't expect. I must admit that i thought many of the things we saw in eye pet were never gonna happen.

Where have you seen wii motion plus show being able to write?

Did you see the tech demo from the conference?

You don't even need Wii MotionPlus to write with the Wiimote... the IR is enough.

Another thing to note is the range. I can't even use my wiimote from my couch. It's rediculously short ranged >_>

@NJ5

Have you even used a wiimote?

You mean the IR part? You can adjust the sensitivity of the camera in the options.

Yes, are you seriously telling me the IR doesn't have enough precision to write with? lol...

Right, you know the remote can work more than 50 feet away correct?  After the Wii was released there was video after video showing that it could work from pretty far away so...yeah, try doing some research before you lie next time?

-edit-

And I'll say this again, Sony's wands are too little too late.  They may or may not have greater precision but it doesn't really matter.  The Wii has had motion control for three years already and Wii Motion + releases next week.  Sony plans to release the wands Spring of next year.

There are rumors that people are already working on the games, but the wands are far from finished and they only had bad tech demos (that the WM+ is already doing) to show.  If they expect these things to be out next Spring that's only a year of dev time.

You know what they're going to do with that?

A bad Wii Sports ripoff.

A bad Wii Fit ripoff.

A bad Link's Crossbow Shooting ripoff.

A bad Carnival Games ripoff.

Possibly bad Wii ports.

If you want good games, you're going to have to have more than a year development time.  That means when these first get released there is going to be a rush of what will be labaled shovelware games and the wands will be forgotten.  Better games may come out a year later but by then it won't matter.
