Forums - Microsoft - Project Natal Exercise Video could be the killer ap

I think there's many possibilities for this - think of not just exercise 'games', but more instructional tutorial interactions to perfect positions and stances like yoga, dancing, karate etc.

This is more advanced than wii motion plus, because it's full body motion sensing it will detect you kicking a ball etc.

You do realise this isn't motion control. This is a camera looking at you. It is video footage of you that pits you in the center of the screen. IT has certain blocks and such in predetermined paths. Ive used this and if you move out of the center area to much you aim for certain blocks to smash for instance and it doesnt connect. It is not 3d motion capture. It's clever because it's actually done by preset motion capture in a studio and the put into the game. It has over 2500 preset motion areas on screen. When you move near these with your captured video character the block will smash.

Dont confuse this with motion control though. For instance Eye toy would not be able to do something like Ricochet or the paint program on Natal purely because it doesnt do 3d motion capture for an entire body.

LoL, they can make it, but who will buy it!?

i don't think that 1 million core gamers will buy it (except if they really feel they need it), or that
1 million casual gamers will instantly buy an Xbox360 for another fitness game

Natal could beat Wii or be closer if it was released at Xbox360 launch, now it's too late MS, you should have keep developing Natal project for your next console, but since it's 2015 as you are saying... : P

Wii is too popular now, it's not just Wii Sports and Wii fit, it's also SSBB, Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Mario and Sonic at Olympics and so on, i'm sorry MS, but Mario cannot be copied and he's too popular now!!

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Do they have an exercise game planned? I wasn't aware.

Well, with the success of Wii Fit, I'm sure they've thought about it. That's something even my video game hating wife would play.

True, true. I do expect something along the lines of Wii Fit to show up quickly...

But you'll understand if I'm not as optimistic as you are about its potential popularity. Nintendo kind of conquered that "niche".

I was surprised that a bathroom scale sold like hot cakes on the Wii, but I'm wiser now.

My wife several times a week plays her 3 or 4 mile walk exercise DVD. If you could change the exercise routines by talking to it, or if it could "see" what exercise you were doing, that would be huge. You can't do real aerobics on a Wii balance board, but you could with this.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

actually, i would buy Xbox360 if they could release a video game like "Your Break-dance Teacher" or "Learn Martial Arts" or "let's dance hip-hop" or something : P

True. Project. Not out yet.

Not true. Actual game. Out ages ago.

But, it seams to me that MS actually aims for the media frenzy here, with "PROJECT NATAL" (the name) being more important (as it sounds impressive) than the actual functionallity, which included a Richochet game that looked chaotic, a painting demo that sucked, a contorsionist avatar, a comercial and words from important people.

How about Jedi Knight training? I could dig out my Darth Maul light saber for a game.

Dance and martial arts might be a little too fast paced, but I could see Yoga or a stretching game.Or maybe a weight lifting game where it looks to make sure you are using the proper form, and it could count repetitions.

Exciting, I know
