That's a different reason then saying you dislike them because everyone uses them (your first answer)

Not really... Their actions in my mind are linked to their market dominance. If they were not so dominant they would not act in such an annoying fashion. I don't mind Microsofts market dominance (If thats your next point) because they give a lot of money to charitable causes and because my disabled friend benefits from their excellent voice recognition software built into Windows Vista 64.

Did I just hear you say that you don't think MS takes advantage of there Market Share?

Nope. All Monopolies, Oligopolies take advantage of their market share. In this case Googles actions go against my personal beliefs and as a free agent in the economy I voted with my feet.

@Liquidlynch: Nope im not joking. I switched to Bing.

Well, what I think is really going on, is you're an MS fanboy who is excited they have a cool search engine now. If you really felt like your talking about, you would have been using any of a dozen other search engines to begin with, and not google.

When Bing fail's (like the last 2-3 attempts from MS), I suggest Yahoo if you don't like Google.

P.S. I still like ya, and still using the PC you speced for me, but your full of shit in this thread :p

Why is it a valid reason? Explain it to me.

I think Domo-Kun is saying it's valid in that he can dislike it for that reason or any other or for no reason at all and he's still perfectly entitled to that opinion.  You're saying it's not valid in that that reason would make no sense.  If I'm right then these views are compatible.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

Funny thing is that I don't have an Xbox 360 at the moment, I lent my console long term to a friend and my other Xbox 360 died. I actually prefer Google to any other search engine because its better and easier to use. I have this anti-Yahoo sentiment from when I first started using the internet, I don't know why but their homepage really annoyed me for some reason and I've held a grudge against them for over 10 years.

Im glad you like the PC.

Btw: I've decided I was too much of a fanboy and im trying to mend my ways! Its too much cognitive dissonance thinking one way and acting another for the fun of it. If you saw my posts recently you'd have seen that I actually said that Sony won E3 in spite of my love of Natal.

Yea, I guess. I mean I can say "I hate yellow because is smells bad", and it's a valid reason because I can hate it for any reason. But still seems illogical.

There is nothing wrong with being a fanboy, just realize you are one and no one cares.

Bing seems cool, and if you love it because you like it and all things Microsoft, no one is going to hate you for it.

Bashing another search engine for what seems to be no other reason then it's not Microsoft's will raise some eyebrows however :)

I still like Google more than Bing as a search engine. I usually automatically type in Google, like when I was looking up the economic definitions just before. I don't like Bing as a search engine nearly as much, but as an alternative to Google and since I dislike Yahoo its currently my only option for a fully featured search engine. Im not actually bashing Googles search engine, its more their business practices in relation to freedom of speech in China which I dislike. The fact that Bing is banned there is a bonus for me.

What is Googles business practice in relation to freedom os speech in China? I have not heard anything (I guess I could google it lol).

I looked it up. It seems that the big three (Google, Yahoo, and Live/Bing) all censor in the US as well. The one who does it least, is Google (or at least makes it the most pain for someone to comply).

"Many many folks who work for Google are horrified that Google agreed to make a censored version of its search engine.  This act is in direct opposition to a fundamental value of the company, which is to make the fruits of the web widely available to people.  From the beginning, Google aimed to be the most open and the most independent of search engines, relying on Page Rank and other objective, machine-generated rules for bringing the best, most relevant content forward.  Google employees that I know believe in the social as well as the business mission of the firm."
