Forums - Gaming - Who thought the Final Fantasy XIV announcement was wierd?

I just found this wierd because Final Fantasy XIII isn't even shipping yet.

Why do you talk about the next one before the current one even ships?

It isn't weird at all. This isn't made by the same team(obviously), and actually isn't even in the same genre. It is an Online MMORPG.

True, but I would've thought they'd call it FF XIII Online then...

The online games have a different number. I used to play XI for a very long time. However it's past it's prime. I don't think trying to make another Fantasy MMO is a great thing with WOW dominating that genre

It was weird the way he announced it. He just annouced it like it was nothing. I though he had just miss-said final fantasy 13 at first

So more people will buy it thinking it is at the same level as the Main Series Single Player games.  They did the same thing with Final Fantasy XI.

I'm more curious to know what'll happen to FFXII now.

Will S-E continue supporting it? There's bound to be people still playing on 360, PC and PS2.

I'm going to assume FF14 is PS3/PC exclusive, because I don't see an MMO sustaining itself on a console base alone right now (especially HD given the sales numbers).

they announced FFX before FFIX came out

they announced FFXIII before FFXII came out

merely routine

Maybe they'll announce FF XIV for the Wii only...

This is just crazy marketing BS to me...

FFXIII, FFXIII versus, FF XIV...

They could have put it in one package and called it FF XIII with different game modes... Single player, multi-player, and MMO

it'll release on ps3 first then port to everything else if and only if its successful, if not you'll see another MMO die before its predeccesor.(aka asheron's call 2)
