Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft Whacks the Wii

haha Microsoft the copying kings???

"...the best way to prepare [to be a programmer] is to write programs, and to study great programs that other people have written. In my case, I went to the garbage cans at the Computer Science Center and fished out listings of their operating system." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

"Hey, Steve, just because you broke into Xerox's house before I did and took the TV doesn't mean I can't go in later and take the stereo." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

Bill Gates had Mac prototypes to work from, and he was known to be obsessed with trying to make Windows as good as SAND (Steve's Amazing New Device), as a Microsoft exec named it. It was the Mac that Microsoft took for its blueprint on how to make a GUI.

""Windows [n.] - A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition.""

They're whacking my wii? ok.
Isn't this coming from the people who thought that motion control was gimmicky? SO what now that the xbox is getting something along the same vein its the next big thing? OH GOOD YEAH AWESOME

MS's third year into the new HD gaming and this all they can give me?  A announcement about "part two's and three's of some game I played before and a Nintendo ripoff?  They should of announced the XBOX 720 with Natal control.  If my Xbox 360 didnt break down in the first place I would be all for it but to little to late...

When will people realize that this camera is just the camera?

Won't replace the 360 controller and become standart for anything as the wiimote did.

It will have though its own software, like Eye Toy on PS2 and PSeye on PS3 and Balance Board on the Wii.

People are massively deluded, thinking Wii's main selling point is waggle. Still nice move, MS, but I have a feeling we won't see new thing till X720.

What is it then? Mario?

No, Wii Sports.

No, I'm just saying that when it was just wii with motion control people were all like oh its crap, its just a complete fad. But now that everybody else is following suit its suddenly the next messiah or something.

the  bolded part is exactly the point, by simply having this as an extra option it becomes much more gimmicky to me their speech just sounded lime what iwata and miyamoto have been saying for the past 3 years, but it doesnt really apply.  to me it sounded like they were trolling their own console.

the sad ting is people havew been complaining for year that they hated the wii because 'you look stupid waving your arms around in the air'. thing is wii didnt require you to wave your arms around in the air,  this thing does

I don´t see Natal, in its current form, taking off to become the norm for gaming....the way it is now, millions of players won´t want to move their whole body to play action/adventure, fighting, sports games, etc...

Instead, this might become the norm for very few genres, but for the more traditional genres?...it´d alienate tons of people.

It's not going to kill the Wii because it's an add on.

This is just the next evolution of fail.

I think some of you are kind of missing the point. It may track your body, but that doesn't stop you from using a bat or a club to give some real tactile feel to the game. I also think that the Wii will do just like it has been doing. I do think that exercise games on the Wii could be done much better on the 360's Natal... I can already see EA porting over their games. What's really neat about this is that we may just be able to see some cross platforms with the 360 and Wii as both use a very similar architecture.

Ubisoft has already revealed their motion sensing camera with their new execise game that tracks body movement also and it's developed for the Wii. Also do not forget about Wii motion plus which adds true one to one motion tracking. However, Natal is interesting but for some reason I can already see the limitations of the technology as a controller. Yet I will reserve Judgement until it becomes available, which is another problem. Why wait so long to release this technology? Wii motion plus and Ubisoft's motion sensing camera will be available in a few months. If Microsoft wait's too long Natal could get lost in the crowd.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba
