Forums - General - Convicted killer beheaded, Body put on display in Saudi Arabia

I found this MADNESS on CNN...  http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/meast/05/30/saudi.arabia.execution/index.html

'Saudi Arabian officials beheaded and then publicly displayed the body of a convicted killer in Riyadh on Friday'...   'Government officials do use crucifixions, or public displays of executed bodies, as a tool to deter people from committing such a crime, he said'

What sort of country is this... I though Crucifixions happened like 2000 years ago in the time of jesus, not today.  Executing someone is one thing but putting the body on display is another.

How can the West be friends with a country's like Saudi Arabia were there is no-freedoms and women are just that 'women with no rights what so ever'.

So will you willingly fuck up our economy and the price of oil?

I'm not saying that I don't understand your feelings, but I think that you're not being realistic.

Whats really sad is that for a long time the Middle Eastern world was so far more progressed than the West...

Golden Age of Islam.

I have very limited knowledge about history, but am I correct when I say this:

Middle East thrived due to liberalism, in terms of science and art. While Europe was stuck in the Dark Ages.

Europe attacked the Eastern borders of the Middle East/Africa, Mongols came through the Middle East. As a result, Europe brought back the knowledge cultivated in the Middle East, and after other circumstances was brought out into the Renaissance. Meanwhile the Middle East became extremely protectionist, conservative, and religious, and stagnated.

The US was attacked in 9/11, and became protectionist, conservative, religious, and wanted to follow the same path as enemies such as Iran.

Saudi Arabia is a barbaric and uncivilized country. It is a shame that the U.S. and other nations buy so much oil from them while boycotting Venezuela because they might not agree with what Hugo Chavez says.
