Forums - Gaming - Ubisoft: Apple Could Be In The Console War

@soleron - Sure, it can be controlled by making proprietary sockets, etc, compatibile parts. So if you took some random kingston memory and threw it in, it wouldnt recognize it. Allow only specific boots in sectors - like GPU Ver. 2 would come out 3 -5 years down the line, so you can swap it, etc. This way its like having the customer build your new console in their own home. Sure, its a longshot, but its just a theory =)

BTW, WTF with your conduit estimates in your sig. You really expect the game to bomb? I can't find a reason to doubt it selling less than 1.5 mil LTD.

Wow, some of you clearly don't understand Apple. Yes, the hardware is overpriced for what the give. Of course, 360-level tech is pretty cheap now. Crap you could sell for $200, even. An apple branded version of 360-like hardware would be, what? $300? Still significantly less than a PS3? Yeah. Yeah it would be. If Apple were to make a console they'd come in competitive. The Pippin, for the one person that remembers it existed, was made when Jobs was not a part of the company. Under his lead such a tragedy wouldn't have existed at all. But with him, should they choose to go gaming (think Apple TV, people, lest you be so ignorant as to not understand how Apple works), it will be the cool thing. That means no one will care that they pay $100 more than the system is worth. Only you "core" gamers will, and the Wii has already proven that you don't count for much. Good luck.

A lot of people remember the Pippin.  Anyways, I never really even heard of Apple TV (don't like Apple at all so I don't keep up with them).  I checked out the site for it and it looks like a complete rip-off.  Why not just get a DVR to watch shows instead of paying 2.99 for each episode or perhaps cheaper for entire season??  DVR seems like it owns Apple TV.

I hope Apple enters the home console market again being all cocky and they waste tons of money (their system fails on the scale of Pippin).  That would bring them back down to earth since they think they are so bad ass at making electronics when most of their products really aren't shit.  I also agree with The Source about the article stating the market is dominated by Sony and Microsoft.  What kind of bullshit is this?  Hmm... Lets just forget about Nintendo...

I hope Apple doesn't enter the console war. That could really fuck with third party support.

@ pretty much everyone. You are wrong

Apple would not create a product called the Igame. They already have a product called the Apple TV for streaming movies to your tv. This is already a well established product, and so does not run the risk of failing. All they need to do is provide a controller and it is capable of playing non graphics intensive games. A bit of a hardware refresh and you could easily get some decent gaming out of an apple tv.

Apple will not release a pippin2. As with the Iphone, they will make gaming a secondary function of an established product

Yep. I am preordering it to support quality games on the Wii, but I think I'm being realistic. No one who has a Wii I know has heard of the Conduit.

Perhaps, but why would you think it will sell less than Madworld has thus far? Madworld was far less hyped, M rated and had a unique if not downright odd art style. I think it will do comparable to COD:WaW did on the Wii, if not better.

They probally will partner up with one of the three for interface and digital distribution rights.

I'd love to be proven wrong. I just wouldn't be surprised if it fails. Online hype counts for nothing.

^^ true guess time will tell
