Forums - Gaming - Would you play a September 9/11 game?

IDK, we've trivialized not only real life events such as WWII, but concepts such as death anyway with video games. To say you don't want to trivialize the loss of life, and do real life events is hypocritical, and I don't see the logic of "too soon". If it's not appropriate at one time, I don't see how it become appropriate at a later time. Death is either a serious matter or trivial matter, it doesn't change over time or person.

As long as it doesn't have Gameplay like CoD games then maybe. I am getting frustrated with the constant run and gun FPS games. I am a human I can't float and turn at the speed of light dangit!

Best post.

Anyone who equates a war (specifically WWII) to a terrorist attack is a moron. I'm sorry, but read a book or watch the History channel and learn something, PLEASE.

Stop getting so excited about a Kid Icarus remake... the original NES Icarus sucked.

Agreed.

And probably even more importantly, out of respect for the families of those innocent civilians - it should not be made. Not for another 50 years at least.

Really everyone, what would your reaction be if a game were released about the last moments of you father's/husband's/wife's/sister's life? Not good, huh?

In what aspect? They both involve tragedy, the taking of lives (both soldiers and civilians). The only difference I see is "legitimacy" (an official war vs. a terrorist attack), the scale and quantity (a life taken is a life taken though), and such...

No I can't see how they could make a full length game out of 9/11

So it's only ok if all those families were dead (and there still are those who were alive during WWII, Vietnam, and Iraq [Full Spectrum Warrior])? That's kind of a messed up sense of morality (as long as no one can complain, it's ok).

I'd find it hard to find pleasure by emulating, in game form, either the terrorist, or the murdered innocents. If that makes me a hypocrite, so be it; I can absolutely live with that.

Only if you find joy in playing WW2 games and such would it make you a hypocrite.

Anyways, I'd like to point out that even though I'd play the game if it was good, I'd never buy or rent it.

I think playing a combatant in an armed conflict against another armed combatant is vastly different than playing a terrorist in an attack against  an unknowing/unarmed target; so I'd disagree with the premise for your classification.  However, I think your comments on this thread have not been offensive or insensetive, even if I personally disagree with them.  Side note, I am FAR from some moral saint, so I'm defintily not trying to come off as holier-than-thou, I just honestly could not stomach finding enjoyment in a game like this (or one based off of the holocaust or any other mass murder/genocide).

Errr, we can easily commit acts of terror against civilians in GTA IV.
