This wiki article says that JT used to be an aspiring politician, but never had any success in this venture. I think that JT wants to be a public figure as a means of furthering his fundamentalist agenda (where he previously served as a fundraiser for a christian group), or just a public figure type of person. Either way, I think that he could stand to get a life.
