Forums - Sony - PS3 Exclusives Will Continue To Leave The Competition In The Dust

Let's face it: the console war comes down to exclusive software. Everything else can be categorized as either trivial or gravy; the top-notch, must-have software that can only be played on one particular platform drives hardware sales. When Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots came out, PlayStation 3 sales spiked for two straight months. When Gears of War 2 came out later in the year, Xbox 360 sales left the other two consoles in the dust. It's just the way of the industry.

Therefore, I think Microsoft and Nintendo should probably take note- Sony is coming hard with the exclusives and they're going to continue to push the envelope. We already have MGS4 and Killzone 2, both of which are arguably - note I said "arguably," naysayers - as good or better than anything on either the 360 or Wii. And we've still got Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, MAG, Heavy Rain, Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time and Gran Turismo 5 in the future. These are games that will not only sell PS3s but will very likely eclipse any exclusive offerings on either of the other two consoles. This is merely speculation, of course, and being a big fan of Gears and the Halo franchise (I own every title in each series), I won't say the 360 isn't capable of competing. But just based on what I see now, it seems that PS3 exclusives not only have the edge...they're destined to dominate. And did everyone see Project Trico? I mean...does anything look so promising for the competition?

And the further along we get, the more exclusives should continue to excel. Hence, wouldn't it be safe to assume that the more developers get out of the PS3's superior hardware, the larger the gap between Sony and its competition will become...? We've all been saying for quite some time that if a developer simply buckles down and focuses entirely on the PS3, they'll produce something better than what could be done on the 360. The fanboys wanted to laugh at that, but based on the exclusives we've already seen and the ones that are on the way...is there any denying this fact any longer? Look, I just calls 'em as I sees 'em. Show me evidence to the contrary rather than shrieking "biased!" at the top of your lungs, and maybe I'll give a listen. Otherwise, just shut it and accept the current facts of the situation. ;)

Sonys top 20 couldn't compare to Nintendos top 3 in system selling potential.

Wii Fit
Wii Sports
Mario Kart Wii

All comers, top 20 they still would come up short. In short theres nothing Sony can do even if we weighed 6 years of PS3 effort to match that.

squilliam, do you even own a ps3? In just the few short minutes ive been on ive seen you down the ps3 in two different threads. are you a fanboi or something?

I dont know what system is the best. I can stat facts though. sony has more in house game studios than microsoft or nintendo, maybe even more studios than both of them combined.

^ 60GB launch model.

Oh and what was the other thread?

Sadly if what the author said is true, it's the best exclusives that drive hardware sales, by the end of 2007 it would have been:

1) 360
2) PS3
3) Wii

With 2008 and 2009 being the time PS3 makes it's move on the 360. In reality, 2007 didn't look like that in the end and just under half way through 2009 the PS3 isn't making a move on the 360.

Also it takes a certain kind of exclusive. MGS4 didn't cause the PS3 to blow the 360 out of the water for long periods of time, ditto KZ2, R2, Uncharted etc

What it takes is a massively popular franchise with a wide fanbase. A Halo, a Final Fantasy (these days), a Gran Turismo, a Super Mario etc.

With the exclusives the author says would drive PS3 sales, only Gran Turismo looks the part, all the others are either blind labelling just because they are exclusives or they have false hope.

The last bolded part is actually funny, given that by pushing "cutting edge" but expensive hardware to get these "awesome" games, Sony has definitely widen the gap, Nintendo's Wii is making the gap larger every week.

Still, as a PS3 owner, I'm okay with it. I'm getting awesome games after all.

your 360 outselling the ps3 again over the holidays. even if the ps3 has a major price cut. anyways, a good console is a good console no matter how many is sold. i have the 60 gig to :)

@ Calamity shouldn't it be:

1. Wii
2. 360
3. PS3

??

As always, 360 fans always bring sales into the discussion. We know the PS3 and its games get wallpoed sales-wise by the competition, but its the quality games people should be interested in

EDIT: I CBA reading the OP articles, so if its about sales forgive me. If its not about sales forgive yourself.
