I think we have a clear cut winner this gen in the name of Wii.

There's no way that Microsoft or Sony will ever be declared the winner of this generation. The Wii is a monster when it comes to sales. If winning is all about making money, then Nintendo is far and away the huge wunner. Not only do they sell the most consoles and handhelds, but they sell the most first party software by a large margin. The fact that WiiFit will soon outsell the PS3 should pretty much sum it all up.

Wii might always be in the top 5, but it always seems to be the same Wii games in the top 5. Why does a console that has 800 games always seem to have the same games in the top 5. And how long has it been since a Wii game that wasn't one of those games cracked the top 5 or top 10?

The PlayStation 3 will beat the Xbox 360 in 2010 and the Wii in 2012 but this generation might be over in 2012 and theres some rumours floating around on the internet that Microsoft will launch the next Xbox in 2011.

But yeah, Nintendo is the winner on both types of consoles, handheld and stationary.

I hope one day there will be a market division between the kids and the adult gamers.
Each console maker would have to bring 1 hardcore console for 16+ and older and/or 1 console for children.
Each with their own features.

This way, gaming websites would be much more focused on their selected market.
Just like a "Horror Movie website" won't waste time talking about Disney movies...

Wii only wins based on sales. In terms of games and online - no way.
In my honest non-fanboy opinion the overall winner for this generation is the PS3 due to being the most technically advanced console system. Many of this generations top games are exclusive to the PS3.

 MUCH bigger...  As of right now, PS3 only has three AAA exclusive titles: MGS4, LBP and KZ2; and even still KZ is a point away from losing that status.  If you factor in sales, they have none.  One of its most hyped exclusives coming out soon, InFamous, has already fallen far short.  As a console, the PS3 only has 12 AAA games altogether, whereas 360's entire top 20 is AAA, thanks to multiplat games being superior on that console for so long.  If you count the "timed exclusives" like BioShock and Oblivion, 360 already has more AAA exclusives than there are AAA games on the PS3.

Even IF all the rest of the exclusives coming out this year manage to live up to the hype, Sony will just be catching up to 360's exemplary line-up.
