So they should release the PS3 version now and release the 360 version later when they finish it.

The PS3 doesnt have a large enough user base to justify a solo release of the game. Sony users dont like to buy games as much as Xbox 360 users so it makes sence to have a simultaneous launch
|
I guess that's why Bioshock had a solo release as well as Eternal Sonata....OH WAIT, the 360 userbase was UNDER 22M when those games released...but I guess 22M was enough then, and not now. /sarcasm
And it shouldn't matter if they release the game WHEN IT'S DONE, if the 360 version will come out eventually. It doesn't make sense to have a simultaneous launch on a game that #1 was promoted for years as a PS3 exclusive and #2 will be done on the PS3 version far before the 360 version is done.
If we should use your logic, SE should have waited to release the Last Remnant until the PS3 version gets done

@ BMaker11
Completely agree ... thats the point.

Then you can obviously tell which company has the clout, as far as Square Enix is concerned. I think the reason SE pushed back the date was because they would obviously make more of a return off of the 360 installed base. My reasoning for this is because it is less costly to develop for the 360. With that is mind, remember that both systems version of the game will sell at the same price point. There you have it. Win or lose, SE will make a very good profit off of both; but with the 360 it doesnt matter if the 360 version outsells the PS3 version or not as long as the sales are close to one another. If the 360 version outsells the PS3 version, say goodbye to Versus.

Except that'll never happen. Hell, the ps3 version will probably outsell the 360 version 2:1 or more.
FF always sells the best in Japan. For every mainline FF that we have data for, sales have gone Japan > NA > EU. Even FFXII sold 600k more in Japan than in NA.
Now, consider the fact that multiplatform games generally sell around 1.7:1 360:ps3 in NA, with some titles favoring the ps3 even more (to name a few examples, SFIV sold 1.07:1, Burnout Paradise sold 1.13:1, GTAIV sold 1.8:1,and CoD4 sold 2.3:1), and with this probably being one of those titles that sells abnormamlly well on ps3 in the States, and assuming that it'll sell 1.1:1 ps3:360 or more in Europe, it's safe that the ps3 version will outsell the 360 version handedly.
Just to use imaginary approximations, lets say that the game sells 2.5:2:1.5 JP:NA:EU. Now let's divvy the numbers up, using my 1.7:1 and 1.1:1 ratios from earlier (even though realistically, it'd probably be more like 1.3:1 for NA and 1.2:1 for EU).
You'd get 2.5 + .7 + .8 = 4.0 for the ps3 version, and 0 + 1.3 + .7 = 2.0 for the 360 version.
So yeah, 4:2 = 2:1, using favorable ratios for the 360.
Now lets use my 1.3:1 and 1.2:1 ratios...
You'd get 2.5 + .9 + .8 = 4.2 for the ps3 version, and 0 + 1.1 + .7 = 1.8 for the 360 version.
42:18 = 2.3:1
Of course, two varying factors in this is how well the European sales compare to NA sales, and how well NA sales compare to Japanese sales. If the American market recieves the title exroadinarily well, while the other markets have an unexpectedly weak reception, things would lean more in favor of the 360. Same goes in reverse, however.

Those numbers are all well and good for a follow-up of the PS2's installed base reaction to the FF series. Back to this gen, Japan will outsell NA LTD, but not first week or even two quarters of the years for the PS3 FFXIII sales. After FFXIII comes out more Japanese consumers will steadily purchase PS3's out of high demand. Seeing that it is exclusive to the PS3 in Japan, its a shoe in for the bulk of sales to occur in Japan. NA will be carrying the bulk of the sales in the beginning and Japan will catch up. Mark my words. Either way, SE is happy. If by some chance the 360 version of FFXIII outsells the its PS3 counterpart say goodbye to Versus exclusivity. SE isn't Konami...they'll jump ship and screw the PS3 fans if the 360 installed base responds. This is only a secondary scheme, but my main prediction is for the PS3 version to sell better due to Japanese exclusivity (2:1).

Are you theorizing that FF will have decent legs in Japan?
Are you mad?
Every mainline FF we have data for since FFVII has sold >60% of its lifetime sales in Japan the very first week, and even VII sold over 50% the frist week. Hell, Crisis Core sold 61% of its lifetime sales (489k out of 790k) the very first week, despite releasing in a similar situation to the one you foretell for XIII (it released alongside the PSP Slim, and the PSP Slim is what sparked the PSP's uptake in sales in Japan).
All JRPGs in Japan are extremely frontloaded, DQ and FF particularly so. The fans of these franchises are extremely hardcore, and will for the most part buy the game the very first week. This is in stark contrast to the other two territories, where games (like FFXII), often don't sell more than 30% of their lifetime sales the first. In the case of games like Uncharted, they sell less than 10% the first week.
I noticed you didn't contest the rest of my numbers. You still admit that FFXIII will probably sell better in Japan than in North America lifetime. If you for the most part agree with my numbers, then how could the 360 version of FFXIII come remotely close to outselling the ps3 version? The only way that could happen is if the game was exclusive to the 360 in North America, the North American version outsold the Japanese version overall, and the 360 version sold better than the ps3 version in Europe. Only the second of those things has any chance of happening, and it's a *very* slim chance.
I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if Versus went multiplat, but an anomoly such as this would not be the cause.
