I hope they do enter the market and get destroyed. It would tone down that over-rated brand of theirs

They have had plenty of products that have failed and it hasn't done much to their brand.

Modern Ones? Apple have only took off recently, and are what Sony used to be. Their brand had gone from strength to strength as of late.

I thought the Apple II was when Apple "took off." I also wonder how many Apple TVs have been sold.

Apple have only been so dominant since the Ipod and Itunes IMO. People dont call them mp4/mp3/music players anymore, and portable sound device is called an 'ipod.' Alot of folks think its the only type of music player,

The Apple II did dominate even though it wasn't the first personal computer. Same with the iPod.
The iPod was the right product at the right time.. The Rios and the like didn't have much memory and then there were larger hard drive based ones that were too bulky, the iPod was somewhere inbetween.

Hence the reason why motion controls on the 360 or ICube will burn in hell. Nintendo got it at the right time.
“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
