Yes, the PS2's and Wii's market performance and specifications make an interesting discussions with regard to the generations discussion.
The PS2 of course has to deal with market saturation. It may still continue to sell for a long time to come in less developed countries due to its low entry pricing and huge game library (+piracy).
The Wii if it would have been released in 2003 (technically feasible), what generation would it have been part of? Etc.
