Forums - Microsoft - Is this the year Microsoft assaults casuals and ignores Sony?

If FFXIII was a PS3 exclusive, PS3 sales would shoot through the roof.

You will be surprised at how much difference these make...
1. Pricecut (Worldwide)
2. Gran Turismo 5 (Worldwide)
3. Final Fantasy 13 (Japan)

The only reason 360 is up YoY is because of its price.

You will be surprised at how little any of those will have an effect other than maybe FF 13 in Japan. When I say little, I mean they Will have a nice bumb in sales for a couple weeks or even months, but it nothing that will turn the tides. Sony has a 8 million deficit behind Xbox and 30 million behind the Wii. None of those can come fast enough to hard enough to turn it around. Top it off with the fact that Sony shed $1.5 billion for the entire company the last fiscal year.

A pricecut wont have an affect on sales? Neither will GT5?

Are you sane?

Im sane, But Sony has veered so so far to the right this generation that they lost contact with regular "joe" gamer. I dont think they will even care if it gets a price cut. Its all about Blue ray blue ray blue ray, GRAPHICS!, blah blah.  Most people dont care about that

Dude, you have no clue what you're talking about. Those two games alone will probably be Playstation's biggest hardware movers. The price cut will also move many consoles. Carl is right, you're speaking of what you HOPE will happen, not what WILL happen.

Everyone said MGS 4, Killzone 2, LBP, Home ,and Resistence 2 were gonna all have the same effect. They didnt do anything. The only way those games will have any effect, is if you you ignore potential system sellers for Xbox 360. This includes games like Halo ODST, Forza 3, Splinter Cell Conviction, etc. Im saying it will all just be Net Net and stay the way it is.

A) show me who said ANY of those games would sell on GT5 or Final Fantasy XIII levels

B) The games you mentioned (outside of possibly ODST) will not have the same effect GT5 and FFXIII will have for the PS3. Remember, the PS3 hasn't seen a new Final Fantasy or Gran Turismo this gen, which tells me, you either A) underestimate their selling power or B) are in denial that those two games will move massive PS3s

Final Fantasy XIII is multiplat in the US. and Europe, and I can find several threads where people thought MGS 4, LBP, Home or whatever will kill the Xbox 360. Then there is always the issue with new IP's like Gears of War was and Microsoft securing importants third party exclusives like Mass Effect and Bioshock. Gran Turismo is questionable at this point. It sold well on a 100 million installed base , but do you really expect it to sell 14 million on a 30 million installed base? a whopping 50% attach rate?????????  I mean GTA 4 didnt sell 18 million on the PS3 like it did on the PS2 simply because of installed base difference.

360 next price cuts its 99$! the same price as the ps2.

Find these threads you speak of, otherwise I call bullshit....

Second, Gran Turismo is an established franchise that will sell big #s regardless of which Playstation it is on. As for FFXIII, it will still move a significant amount of PS3s in the (yes it is relevant) Land of the Rising Sun, where it ISN'T multiplatform.

Wanna try again?

You are forgetting the simple fact that most people who buy a PS3 buy it more for the Blu-Ray player than for the console. Sure, GT5 and FFvsXIII might move a few consoles, but i don't think it'll be anything drastic that will push the PS3 above the X360. It won't make the PS3 sell 8-10 million consoles to pass the X360. It might move consoles in Japan a lot, but Japan isn't that big an influence on sales at all, since US and EU are simply bigger.

@NightAntilli

Hmmm...I´m not sure most people purchasing a PS3 are still doing it mainly for Blu-Ray, since standalone BD players have been retailing for $199 for quite some time now.

@JGarret: I know but someone who's gonna get a Blu-Ray player already has money for a good HDTV and that doesn't mean they go for cheapest of all. And PS3 is one of the cheapest of the better ones able of being updated and i think if they know it can play games etc too, they just buy that one.
