I own a 360, and I saw someone use this to demo a racing game yesterday, and all i want to say is I couldn't care less about this peripheral. I'm not going to plead Microsoft to not release it, because I know there are people who would enjoy this, but I just find it really.... hmm... well I just have no interest in it.

I'd rather see them release their next console with a whole revision on controls much like Nintendo has done with the Wii.

I think you missed the point of the driving demonstration.  While you could use no controller, ideally you have a wheel, perhaps and head tracking for looking around for example.  Similarly for FPSes, the controller would still probably be the main input device but the cam would augment it.

Head tracking could be done, but then you would no longer be looking at the tv. I cannot really see many good gaming applications for this. RTS game might could work if you could use it like a touch screen from a distance.

No, no, that's the stupid kind of head tracking. I agree, using head tracking to link the orientation of the players head to the orientation of the in-game camera is useless, for exactly the reason you cite.

The good kind of head tracking links the position of the head to the position of the in-game camera, while keeping orientation more or less fixed. The result is a powerful 3D illusion, as seen in Johnny Lee's videos.

If MS can implement this effectively at a reasonable price, and back it up with compelling software, I might just have to buy the next Xbox if Nintendo doesn't respond.

If Sony had announced this...

OMGZ!!! this will be amazing... think of the possibilities... I love Sony they just keep delivering!!!! ZOMG!!!! C3LLLLLLL!!!!!!

.... or some such nonsense.

Get off my nuts.

You want an autograph? It seems like a cool Idea but add-ons of this nature always fail. It works for the Wii because each Wii has motion controls. The primary 360 fanbase (shooter lovers) will play one round of Halo or COD4 with this thing, get totally pwned and throw it in the trash.

I also think if sony makes a Wii mote (we've heard that rumor too) it won't take off just like the eyetoy didn't take off, and the power glove, and the this and the that.

ringo, can you post or link to these videos. I cannot visualize what you are saying.

The good stuff starts at 2:30, if you want to skip all the details on how this was done.

The ZCam should be able to deliver this kind of head tracking without the need for a head-mounted sensor bar. The Eyetoy could do something like this, but without a reliable way to detect depth, the 3D illusion would break down pretty fast.

Thanks ringo. That could be neat if the game play utilized it.
