I dont know, could the PS3 possibly get any cooler looking than it already does? I doubt it but we will see. If there is a slim version announced, I will be running out and getting another PS3.

Even though how much I want this to happen bec. this will help sony a lot in sales. I'll regret my PS3 purchase last feb. 8. I should have wait.

Is yours a BWC PS3?  If its the current PS3 then i can see why.

Im happy with my BWC PS3 and wanted it before they release the slimline.  They already cut back on 2 USB ports, BWC, Media card-reader.

Whats next to cut to make this slimline?

- the fan most likely

- maybe itll have the same type of disc load top the PS2 slim instead

- an unreplaceable HDD thats smaller than the 2.5" (like the ones the Ipods use?)

Those are just my thoughts.  If they add new stuff to slim thatd be nice but in math; add =/= smaller lol

Yes it is.

Colors. Slim is still impossible even with the 45nm revisions because the motherboard is too large and the other components will still not be small enough to fit into much smaller of a space. Has anyone seen the inside of a PS3? I have no clue how they manage to get it all in there! It's like a freaking perfectly filled screen of tetris.

If they could make the PS3 a lot cheaper to produce thanks to new components that are also smaller than what they currently have, maybe put things together like from the PS1 to the PSOne, this could work.
It would sure help them out on the sales level.

But no. I don't think this'll happen just yet.

Thats true, but they could do like what they did with the PS2 slim and that is remove the power supply and make it seperate like the 360 has.  They could then remove some of the cooling fans and then it could get much slimmer.  There has to be some room in there because they reoriented the PS3 HDD to take up more room for some reason.

there won't be yet it would cost too much for them to be changing up their production at this point, new colors is a possibility tho

Well, if it's a redesign, that'd probably cost Sony a ton of money, which they can't really spare at the moment... I doubt they'd take that kind of risk, when it's not guaranteed to move more consoles. Also, the price of the system itself would likely be higher if it was somehow redesigned and smaller/more compact.

If they do go ahead with a slim PS3 it will be because they were able to significantly reduce the size and number of components. Doing that reduces the cost, it doesn't increase it.

That's got to be one of the best and funniest comments I have ever heard

+1

Well, in lieu of a price cut a slim model would be the best thing to maintain strong(ish) sales in Japan. Don't think it'd make much difference in the west though.

Funnily enough the exact opposite of everything you said is true.
