Forums - Microsoft - FFXIII 360 Exhibits Storage Limitations, PS3 Not Affected

Don't speak Japanese, don't care. I also think that this is another case where the internet community that believes Japanese audio is an absolute must-have is out of touch with the majority of people who will buy the game. It's Final Fantasy, not obscure, niche JRPG 3 from unknown Japanese developer X.

I watch anime in Japanese even when the English dubs are available.

"even when the english dubs are availible" would imply that Japanese dubs>English dubs.

e.g I play my PS3 even when PSN is down

of course they are - let's start with the fact that when anime is dubbed they often change dialogues to fit in often losing sense or characteristic Protagonists sayings.

not to mention they usually soften the language because we all know that anime is only for kids:/ thanks to that many jokes are lost. plus if you have subs you can always use explanations for many things that typical non-japanese people won't understand, will simply miss it or will be confused when it's important to the story.

i would rather hear

somethin no jutsu

than

white turtle splashing water on sunny day under cherry blossoms behind grocery store technique

Are you trying to explain to me something I already understand ?

With SE's current track record in the VA department I think I would like to have the option of a JA voice track. I mean did many of you enjoy the VA dubs in SO4?

Anyway NOT all english dubs are bad, I actually thought that Samurai Champloo and Trigun had better Dubs then their Japanese original.

Favouring japanese audio goes beyond the quality of english dubs , watching an anime in Japanese dubs allows the audience to experience the anime as it was intended . the meaning & character of an anime often gets lost in the translation process ( I've experienced this many times) , even if there are good translators you can never translate authenticity.

It's like eating Chineese food in China vs eating Chineese food here , yeah some people will do it good here but if you want the authentic chineese experience with localy sourced foods, native chefs etc then you go to China.

@DE85 no one said that everyone cares about Japanese audio , read properly. It's being argued that there is a significant number of people who would like japanese audio ( Anime fans for example , who are also generaly JRPG fans).

I dont think it will affect sales but to me personally and a lot of my friends who are PS360 owners and anime fans,  it is a another clear reason to not even bother with the 360 version.

Once you go with subs on a anime or foreign films you cannot stand a dub version, it is specially painfull watching something dubed you already watched subed, they just butcher the content not to mention the soul of the characters get changed for the worst, deathnote in inglish is just painfull to watch, anyone arguing that subs are not needed should try watching something sub first ( the original way it was supposed to be viewed ) then watch it after with dubs, you will see a huge difference.

The english dub on Disgaea is also better IMO

I had no idea such a large amount of JRPG fans actually played the game with Japanese language when they themselves do not know Japanese. Seems highly illogical. So long as they do good with the english voices it is fine. All the JRPGs I've played recently in english were fine. Any anime or manga type cartoons I watch are also in english and are much better. I hate having to watch a movie and read the subtitles all the time. But I also hate bad voiceovers which is why I hate the standard kung fu type movie. Do english voices well and there is no reason for anyone to use japanese when they do not speak japanese.

Hah! Good thing I grew up reading dutch subtitles on english spoken shows, so I don't have this problem. Seriously, it's not a big deal reading subs and it doesn't distract unless you fully master a language. I don't master Japanese yet, but I sure as hell am making progress by watching anime in its native language. It's very educative, AND Japanese sounds way better to me than often lame english dubs. Like in the anime Code Geass. I won't share every plot detail now, but the story involves a main character who is a british prince. In the dub, they gave him an AMERICAN ACCENT. Not just that, I think I recognised the voice of Ned Flanders from The Simpsons with his voice. It was almost funny. Thank god I watched that anime in Japanese.

Of course there are good dubs(like most Final Fantasies, so this won't be too big a problem), but saying it's stupid to watch anime in Japanese when there are english dubs available is just kinda ignorant.

What more can I say? Nihongo wa sugoi da!

The Dub work on RE 5 was fantastic why would the FFXIII not be?

who cares its just a language. just release it as DLC like Blue Dragon did.

Once again the 360 limits another game because of the limited disc space. Gald this wasn't a port from 360 to PS3 like some games. I'm just stating a fact not trying to make anyone mad.

According to Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase, the Xbox 360 version of the eagerly awaited RPG may only include English voiceovers due to its limited storage capacity per disc – the PlayStation 3 release, however, is not affected by such constraints thanks to Blu-ray.

“Obviously, when we talk about XIII it’s for PS3 and Xbox – with PS3 being on Blu ray there would be enough memory, but on Xbox probably not,” said Kitase. “At the moment we’re thinking of releasing the voice in English only. Are there many people who would like to play with Japanese voices?”

For the sake of all Final Fantasy fans lets hope that this is the only limitation, I don’t want the actual game outside of languages affected just because of the Xbox 360 alone.
